Air defense expert did not rule out the use of American MLRS in Belgorod

This was the most massive raid during the special operation

Belgorod was subjected to the most brutal shelling since the beginning of the special military operation. According to the latest data – five dead. Their number may grow after the analysis of the destroyed houses. At the same time, a blow was struck at Kursk. It is clear that everyone immediately has a reasonable question: was it possible to shoot down the missiles flying over our territory? Where and with what could the Armed Forces of Ukraine shoot at our cities?

Photo: Social networks

These questions are in hot pursuit of MK asked a military expert, ex-chief of the anti-aircraft missile forces of the Special Forces Command (Moscow Air Defense District), reserve colonel Sergei Khatylev.

– Information about the shelling is still being specified, – said the expert. – There are no exact data yet. But it is already clear that this was the largest, almost massive shelling of Russian territory during the entire period of the special operation.

– Presumably, they fired from Kharkov, and possibly Sumy regions. It is possible that they fired from near Donetsk, from Avdiivka, from where they have not yet driven out the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At least from these areas they reach our territory with Tochka-U missiles and Smerch rocket systems.

– Could. But there is no reliable confirmation of this information yet. They say that we already have two such complexes as trophies. Another one was put out of action, but this is not officially confirmed by our General Staff. The Ukrainian military is trying to hide the rest of the HIMARS.

– Air defense forces worked. In the same Kursk, two Ukrainian strike drones “Strizh” were shot down. Firing was organized at targets in the zone of responsibility of air defense systems and the zone of destruction of anti-aircraft missile systems in Belgorod. But understand correctly: there is such a thing as “air defense cover.” The air defense system covers from the air, it cannot fully protect 100%.

I repeat: in fact, it was a massive rocket attack. The ammunition he fired at was all different targets, different speeds. With a massive raid, not a single air defense system in the world is capable of destroying all 100% of the targets. Therefore, when they evaluate the work of an air defense system, they talk about its effectiveness and the likelihood of hitting targets. Even when the efficiency is 0.98 – and this is the highest figure among anti-aircraft systems in the world – part of the enemy's attack means still reaches their targets. It won't work otherwise.

The consequences of the shelling of Belgorod were filmed

Watch the related video

Besides, don't forget that when our air defense even shoots down the Tochka-U missile, its parts and the remnants of ammunition still fall and damage objects, premises, people. Unfortunately, it is made in such a way that even when it is shot down, it is not completely destroyed.

I think that nothing like this could happen again, there is only one way out: move the enemy to such a distance from where his weapons systems cannot reach Russian territory.

Angry Libyans came out under the flags of Gaddafi because of the consequences of the Ukrainian crisis

Strife-torn Arab country seethes again

Violent protests have erupted in Libya. Demonstrators stormed the legislature in Tobruk because of the political stalemate and deteriorating living conditions. Experts attribute the rise in food prices, causing dissatisfaction among Libyans, partly with the consequences of the Ukrainian crisis.

Photo: AP

Libyans, many of whom are impoverished after a decade of unrest and suffering from sweltering summer heat, are facing fuel shortages and power outages up to 18 hours a day, despite the fact that their country has the largest proven oil reserves in Africa.

Libya has been mired in chaos and recurring conflict since NATO-backed rebels toppled and killed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, according to The Guardian.

On Friday evening, protesters stormed the city's House of Representatives Tobruk in the east of the country, looting offices and setting fire to part of the building.

As in Benghazi — cradle of the 2011 uprising, so in the capital Tripoli, thousands took to the streets chanting “We want the lights to work.” Some protesters waved the green flags of the Libyan Jamahiriya, created by & nbsp; Muammar Gaddafi.

On Saturday, calm seemed to have returned to Tobruk, although calls for more protests were heard on social networks in the evening.

UN Representative in Libya, Stephanie Williams, says that « riots and acts of vandalism “completely unacceptable”, calling everyone to calmness and restraint.

UN-brokered talks in Geneva this week aimed at breaking the stalemate between rival Libyan institutions failed to resolve key differences.

Presidential and parliamentary elections, originally scheduled for last December, were supposed to end the peaceful a UN-led process following the end of the last major round of violence in 2020.

But the vote never took place due to several controversial nominations and deep disagreements over the legal basis of the vote between the rival centers of power in east and west Libya .

Hundreds of people marched in Tripoli on Friday demanding elections, a change in political leadership and an end to chronic power outages.

The sudden outbreak of unrest seems to have spread to other parts of the country, as Libyan media showed footage of protesters in the oasis city of Sebha in deep in the Sahara setting fire to an official building.

A local journalist reported that protesters in Misrata, Libya's third city, blocked roads after setting fire to a municipal building Friday night.

Libya's interim prime minister, Abdulhamid Dbeiba, leads the administration in Tripoli, while former Interior Minister Fathi Bashaga enjoys the support of the House of Representatives in Tobruk and the leader of the military who controls the eastern part of the country, Khalifa Haftar.

Field Marshal Haftar's forces said in a statement. Saturday that they “support the citizens' demands” but urged the protesters to “preserve public property.”

Libya expert Jalel Harshawi told AFP that “for more than a year, the vast majority of diplomatic and mediation efforts around Libya have been monopolized by the idea of an election that will not take place for at least two years, given the failure of the Geneva talks.”

This year “has been extremely painful for Libyans” because the country imports almost all food and the conflict in Ukraine has hit consumer prices in Libya, comments Harshaoui.

Libya's energy sector, which financed a lavish welfare state during the Gaddafi era, has also been the victim of political controversy since a wave of forced shutdowns of oil facilities began in April. Supporters of the eastern Libyan administration have turned off oil taps as leverage in their efforts to plant their henchmen in Tripoli.

“In the east, as in the west, there is kleptocracy and systematic corruption, which is constantly reminded to the public by fancy cars and elite villas,” — says Jalel Harshawi, accusing militants from both camps of “massive” fuel trade.

The European Union representative in Libya, Jose Sabadell, said Friday's events in the Arab country “confirm that people want change through elections.” But he called for peaceful protests, adding that “special restraint is needed given the fragile situation.”

U.S. Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland said that “no single political entity has legitimate control over the entire country.” “and any attempt to impose a unilateral solution will lead to violence.” (By the way, it was the United States, together with its allies during the rebellion against the government of Gaddafi in 2011, who did their best to impose those same “unilateral solutions” on the Libyans). The American diplomat urged “Libya's political leaders across the spectrum and their foreign supporters to seize the moment to restore their citizens' confidence in the country's future.”

Kadyrov called the tactics in Lisichansk “competent and swift”

Troops operate much faster than in Mariupol

As Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to President Vladimir Putin on July 3, Lisichansk has been completely controlled. Thus, the liberation of the Luhansk People's Republic has been completed. Experts consider this event a great success for a special military operation.

Photo: dan-news.info.

Ukraine has done everything possible to reduce the effect of yet another success of our special operation. The shelling of Belgorod, Kursk and Melitopol is low revenge for a serious military defeat. Under other conditions, our success in Lisichansk, which completes the liberation of the entire Luhansk People's Republic, would be a good occasion for a victorious salute. Perhaps there will be such a salute.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense reported that the troops of the Center group under the command of Colonel General Alexander Lapin (commander of the troops of the Central Military District) reached the Seversky Donets River and, together with the Southern Group of Forces under the command of General of the Army Sergei Surovikin (commander in chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces), they closed the encirclement around Lisichansk. The enemy is demoralized, surrenders and suffers heavy losses.

According to experts, the release of Lisichansk is important from all points of view. And above all, as an indicator of the effectiveness of the tactics chosen by the troops. The city was almost taken in a week. Before that, Severodonetsk was liberated at about the same pace.

The essence of the tactics in both cases was that our troops did not immediately try to take the city into a dense encirclement, as was the case, for example, in Mariupol. There, standing near the completely blocked Azovstal plant, where the militants took refuge, lasted a month.

In Severodonetsk and Lysichansk, on the contrary, the groups of the armed forces of Ukraine (AFU) were left corridors for exit. But these retreat routes were under our control and fire influence. As a result, scattered small groups of soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, often without commanders, fled from these cities, abandoning their equipment and heavy weapons. And all this under the fire of our artillery.

The web is full of videos in which fleeing Ukrainian soldiers tell how scared they are. And this is a very important moral factor.

The head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, in his Telegram channel, called our tactics in Lisichansk “competent and swift.” “The Nazis, Bandera, devils and crowds of mercenaries seemed to be preparing for a long defense of the city. However, they fled from the approaching fighters of the allied forces so briskly that recognized athletes would envy, ”he wrote.

In Lisichansk, a special police regiment named after Hero of Russia A.A. Kadyrov of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Czech Republic, the 6th Cossack regiment of the LPR, the special forces “Akhmat” under the command of General Apta Alaudinov and the 1st Corps of the People's Militia of the LPR under the command of “Adler” operate in a coordinated manner. The troops are supported by Russian artillery and aviation.

The Rybar telegram channel notes that some units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were able to get out of the operational “cauldron” in Lisichansk. The retreating troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as detachments of mercenaries, headed for the Seversk region, where fortified areas are being created, a military blogger warns. When withdrawing, the command set the task of destroying military equipment.

First Deputy Minister of Information of the DPR Daniil Bezsonov comments on the situation around Lisichansk on the social network as follows: the capture of Lisichansk means that the LPR is “almost completely liberated from Ukrainian occupation.”

The enemy retreated, having suffered huge losses, to Seversk. There are going to be fights. “As a human being, I feel sorry for those Ukrainians who, against their will, are thrown meat under our shells. This is how you have to give up. Ukraine's human resource is running out much faster than the shells sent by the West,” concludes Bezsonov.

The United States was convicted of plans to create an analogue of NATO in Asia

Washington's main partners in new military bloc in the Far East named

The United States is seeking an excuse for an “Asian NATO” with South Korea and Japan, North Korea says. Against this background, Pyongyang speaks of the urgent need to build up its defense capability.

Photo: AP

Agreement between the United States, South Korea and Japan to strengthen military cooperation was criticized by the DPRK. In Pyongyang, this agreement was called part of the US plan to create a NATO-like military alliance in the region.

This was stated by a representative of the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to a question posed by the KCNA, the state news agency reported on Sunday.

“During the recent NATO summit, the rulers of the United States, Japan and South Korea, in an anti-Republican confrontation collusion, rashly quibbled over the exercise of our fair rights to self-defense and discussed highly dangerous joint military retaliation aimed at us, including trilateral joint military exercises,” KCNA quoted the representative as saying. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. – Also, the US and its satellites have also recorded in the new “strategic concept” adopted at the NATO summit, a hostile phrase that finds fault with our self-protective measures to strengthen defense capabilities.

“At this NATO summit, it has become clearer,” the North Korean diplomat continued, “that the United States is trying to simultaneously contain and encircle Russia and China by “militaryizing” Europe and “turning the Asia-Pacific region into a NATO region,” and considers a tripartite military alliance US – Japan – South Korea an important vehicle for their implementation. Due to the reckless military intrigues of the United States and its satellites, a dangerous situation has developed, fraught with the simultaneous outbreak of nuclear war in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. And it has brought global peace and security to the gravest crisis since the end of the Cold War. Reality clearly shows that the real purpose of dragging the United States into the “North Korean threat” version is to create a pretext for establishing hegemony not only in the Asia-Pacific region, including the Korean Peninsula, but throughout the world.

“The current situation highlights the urgency of strengthening the national defense capability to actively respond to the trend towards a sharp deterioration in the situation on the Korean Peninsula and ensure international security,” the North Korean official added.

US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol met on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Madrid last week and shared the view that the progress of North Korea's nuclear and missile programs poses a serious threat not only to the Korean Peninsula, but to also to East Asia and the world, according to Reuters.

The leaders of the three countries said they would explore additional means to strengthen “extended deterrence” against Pyongyang.

North Korea is conducting missile tests at an unprecedented pace this year, Reuters said, and some observers believe the DPRK is preparing for another nuclear test.

“The deterrent capabilities of the Japan-US and US-ROK alliances should be improved as part of an important effort to strengthen the trilateral partnership between Japan, the United States and the Republic of Korea,” said Japanese Prime Minister Kishida.

Meanwhile, as Reuters recalls, relations between Japan and South Korea have long been complicated by difficult memories of the horrors of the Japanese occupation of the Korean Peninsula from 1910 to 1945. Relations between Seoul and Tokyo have deteriorated to their worst levels under former South Korean President Moon Jae-in, over spats over territorial disputes and historical grievances. The new South Korean president, Yoon Suk Yeol, nevertheless expressed a desire to restore relations with the Land of the Rising Sun, and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also seems to have reacted positively to the signals coming from Seoul.

Turkey scared Sweden and Finland: non-compliance with the deal will be expensive

Ankara continues to put pressure on Swedes and Finns aspiring to NATO

Failure to comply with the deal with Turkey will cost Sweden and Finland much more than its implementation, Akif, chairman of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee, said on Sunday Çağatay Kılıç in connection with the agreement between Ankara, Helsinki and Stockholm reached at the NATO summit in Madrid.

Photo: AP

In a conversation with the Anadolu (AA) agency, Akif Çağatay Kılıç assessed the memorandum signed by Ankara, Stockholm and Helsinki on the processes for the accession of the two Nordic countries to NATO.

Kılıç said that by applying for NATO membership due to of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Sweden and Finland have changed their policy of neutrality, which they have adhered to today, adding that the final stage of the launched diplomatic process was the signing of a memorandum at the NATO summit in Madrid, Daily Sabah writes.

In this context, a written statement was agreed and the Foreign Ministers of Turkey, Sweden and Finland signed this MOU, Kılıç explained, stressing that the agreement put the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) back on the agenda as the group was written in the tripartite memorandum as terrorist organization.

Noting that Sweden and Finland also agreed to fight the PKK and its “subsidiaries”, including its Syrian offshoot YPG, Kılıç said: “Most importantly, FETÖ (the movement of Fethullah Gülen supporters) is referred to as a “terrorist organization” for the first time in an international document. FETÖ was included in the international memorandum of understanding as a terrorist organization in the sense that Turkey considers it.”

Kılıç noted that the memorandum clearly shows Turkey's wishes and determination in the fight against terrorism, as well as a message about that NATO allies support Ankara in the fight against existential threats.

Stressing that the signing of the memorandum does not mean that Sweden and Finland can immediately begin the process of joining NATO, Kılıç said: “The negotiation process will continue for some time and will eventually be submitted to parliaments. This is a process that must go through the parliaments of all NATO allies. The memorandum is the beginning of this work.”

The Turkish politician emphasized that the countries that signed the memorandum assumed written obligations. “If you fail to meet these obligations, sorry, you will not be told that you are a man of your word, and we cannot trust you in any so-called agreement that we come up with. Failure to comply with the memorandum costs much more than its enforcement. Because trust will be lost, your words will not matter. There is a process that begins in this sense. We will monitor whether the guarantees given in writing are being followed.”

The agreement signed with Finland and Sweden to lift Turkey's veto on their NATO membership applications is not the end of the matter and obliges the Scandinavian states to keep their promises, President Erdogan said earlier.

He said there was no need to rush with the ratification of applications in Parliament. According to the Turkish president, Ankara should first check whether Sweden and Finland will fulfill the promises made under the memorandum, including the extradition of suspects wanted by Turkey.

“Without the approval of our parliament, this will not come into force. So there is no need to rush,” Erdogan scared the Swedes and Finns.

Sweden and Finland must honor promises made to Ankara as part of the deal regarding their NATO membership bid, including Stockholm's promise to extradite 73 “terrorists,” the Turkish leader said.

“We strongly emphasized that we expect genuine solidarity from our allies not only in word but also in deed,” Erdogan told reporters after the Madrid summit of the US-led military bloc.

The applications of Sweden and Finland for membership in the North Atlantic Alliance were delayed until the last moment by Turkey, which sought guarantees that the Nordic countries would join Turkey's fight against Kurdish groups, which Ankara considers terrorist, and quickly extradite the suspects. The dispute was resolved by a 10-point memorandum that appears to address many of Turkey's terrorism concerns and lift the arms embargo on Ankara in response to the 2019 Turkish military operation in Syria. But Erdogan said he now expects the two countries to honor the deal in full.

Erdogan threatened Sweden and Finland that he could still block their bid to join NATO if they failed to implement the new deal with Ankara. If these countries do not keep the promises made to Turkey, support for their application will not be sent to the Turkish Parliament for ratification. Applications of new countries for membership in the Alliance must be approved by all NATO member states and ratified by the respective parliaments of the countries.

A writer from Belgorod spoke about the night shelling: the door flew out

Locals can tell the difference between a fighter jet and a drone by sound

This night, according to the latest information from the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian side hit Belgorod with Tochka-U tactical missile systems and UAVs. And although the rockets were destroyed in the sky above the regional center of the border region, fragments of one of them fell on a residential building. Olga Knysh, a poetess, author of several books of poems and an organizer of cultural events, lives not far from the place that was hit.

Photo: Social networks

– I live across the house. This is a central area, next to the train station. My address is Oktyabrskaya Street, and it flew to Chumichev, this is the corner of my street. There are sixteen-story and fifteen-story buildings.

– Sleeping.

– I woke up not from the first blow actually. I thought it was the first one, but no. After about an hour, everyone began to write to me: “Oh, you are in the center, but what is going on with you there.” But nothing happened to me – I slept. Fortunately, I am a “hot woman”, and all my windows are open – on the third floor of a five-story building. There was a draft, and only one plastic door flew out. I recently went out to the store, found out that below me, all the windows were knocked out at the granny, and a TV fell from the bracket on the floor above. And I escaped with a slight fright.

– The second one, yes. But this is already the norm. And I will say more, even our grandmothers are local – they click seeds until all this arrives.

– No, our people are fearless.

– Also not.

– Purely theoretically, there is air defense somewhere. We hear it from time to time. But not at the alert level.

Yes. Every morning starts the same way for us. I already determine where the “drying” flew by, and where the drone.

– They tell the children. But what's the point? We fly everything every day. And the way I define by ear, and the children have learned to define.

– Nothing. We are already used to it. I understand that it’s easy either to arrive or not to arrive – and you either get out of the house or not. A draft saved me now, and fragments flew from the fourth floor to people.

– No.

At first, everyone was hiding. Now everyone is performing, and it's great. We have a very good literary hangout here. There is a chat, it is called “Belgorod – the capital of poetry.” And we have really cool writers and there will be new ones, because the “youngsters” are growing.

– Of course.

Residents of Belgorod talk about the shelling: “The most terrible night”

A Ukrainian shell killed a family from Kharkov

“It was the worst night since the start of the special operation,” is how Belgorod residents now talk about their experiences. By 10 am they were already able to comment on something. Before that, there was only shock and stupor. Explosions that began to rumble over the city at the beginning of the fourth morning literally shook many out of bed. Powerful pops, fiery fireworks in the air, the sound of broken glass — everything is mixed up.

Photo: Social networks

At dawn, the city began to recover. And it turned out that the shells that arrived from Kharkov had significantly damaged the city center. “The crunching of glass underfoot, frames flying out and mosquito nets hanging on trees” – this is how the journalists of the local Internet portal, who arrived at five in the morning at the epicenter of the strike, described what they saw. Women roamed the street, one of them — with a bandaged leg. As the pensioner told reporters, her leg was injured by glass fragments, and she lives on the 4th floor of an apartment building. Another woman said that now she can’t bring herself to return to the apartment, where all the pictures have fallen from the walls from the blast wave: “I can’t stay at home — I'll go crazy… In another yard, a man told how his kitchen stove, which was standing by the window, was turned inside out…. “Watched TV. And then four loud bangs, and then a flash and the clinking of glasses. – says a young man from Popova Street in a video posted on social networks. According to him, the glass in his windows survived because they were open. But from the opposite facade of the house, the windows were left without glass. “There were two claps, on the third — arrived. Like eggshells, the doors and the ceiling fell down. They grabbed the children and ran out” – says a young woman from a destroyed private house in the video.

On Mayakovsky Street in the private sector — a scorched patch on the site of several houses. Ruins — as if after a massive bombing. This place is cordoned off, no one is allowed in there. An investigation team is working there. It was here that the tragedy occurred: 4 people died. One — citizen of the Russian Federation and three — citizens of Ukraine. Evil fate overtook a family from Kharkov, who tried to hide from shelling on the territory of the Russian Federation. Family of Kharkiv citizens — a man, his sister and mother-in-law – spent the night in the wing of house number 23. The explosion tore apart the building. Everyone who slept in the house itself managed to run out into the street. Thus, they saved their lives, because the house caught fire. Luckily, there were not two other people in the annex who could be there. As Aleksey Rusanov, a resident of the house, told the Belgorod portal Bel.ru, his son and daughter-in-law also lived in the wing, who stayed overnight in the village. “The government of Ukraine is killing Ukrainian citizens on the territory of the Russian Federation, and this is the absolute height of cynicism that Ukraine has achieved in its actions.” – commented on the tragedy & nbsp; governor of the region Vyacheslav Gladkov.

The consequences of the shelling of Belgorod were filmed

Watch the video on the topic

Four more people were taken to hospitals, including a 10-year-old child. There are no threats to their lives, the doctors assure.

In total, about 50 houses were damaged: 39 of them were private households and 11 — apartment buildings. In high-rise buildings, from the blast wave, the glass of the windows mostly flew out and the balcony grilles bent. At one apartment building, according to preliminary data, the roof was damaged. It was worse for private houses along Mayakovsky Street: from getting into the wing of house 23 & nbsp; other buildings were on fire. As a result, five houses were completely destroyed. Significant damage was received by a private house on March 8 Street, on which fragments of a shell shot down by air defense systems fell. He  the roof and part of the walls were destroyed.

Now the city is studying the damage caused by shelling. Governor Gladkov promises to repair all damaged houses. At the same time, extra-budgetary opportunities will be sought to finance restoration work, since repairs at the expense of the budget are associated with long approvals and therefore the process may be delayed.

In the afternoon, people with flowers reached the destroyed houses on Mayakovsky Street. Carnations and chrysanthemums were laid right on the roadside, next to the place where the ruins were still smoking…

Why Karakalpakstan will not go far: the expert explained the prospect

The Republic wants to have the right to withdraw, but the position is in the way

Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and now also Uzbekistan… Unrest has not subsided since the end of last week in the autonomous Karakalpakstan, which is part of the Uzbek Republic. Thousands of people took to the streets of the region's capital, Nukus, demanding not to deprive them of their sovereign rights. Friday's peaceful rally by Saturday turned into an attempt to seize the authorities, and on Sunday aggressive people from the villages began to move into the center of Karakalpakstan. With the approval of the parliament, President Mirziyoyev introduced a state of emergency and a curfew in the republic. Moreover, the demands of the protesters have already been satisfied, but will this stop those who call people to the streets?

Photo: Frame from video

Since the beginning of the year, the countries of Central Asia, one after another, began to fall out of the long-term “comfort zone”, facing pockets of internal resistance. And although all these conflicts were triggered by internal problems (in Kazakhstan, the reason was the increase in gas prices, in Tajikistan, law enforcement lawlessness), the authorities of these countries assure that there was no external interference.

They are talking about the same thing in Tashkent now. Although the reason for the “outbreak of separatism” is quite transparent: the upcoming changes to the Constitution of the country. In the proposed amendments regarding Karakalpakstan (Articles 70-74), the autonomous status of the republic remains, but the word “sovereign” has disappeared somewhere. In addition, the article was removed, speaking about the possibility of Karakalpakstan to secede from Uzbekistan through a referendum. And although the Karakalpak autonomy has not yet expressed an intention to leave somewhere, but apparently the very sight of the “closed door” caused unrest among the people. Although it is clear that this is only the “tip of the Iceberg”, and the subsidized region has enough reasons for dissatisfaction. This is indirectly confirmed by the fact that President Mirziyoyev, who arrived in the rebellious city of Nukus, seemed to remove all contradictions by evening, saying that the sovereign status of autonomy in the Constitution must be left. However, the rally activity did not subside, on the contrary, people from the region began to pull up …

How the current situation can be resolved, Stanislav Pritchin, an expert from the Center for the Study of Central Asia and the Caucasus of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told MK:

– So far, there are no traces of foreign participation in the events. Here, nevertheless, it seems to me, an internal factor played a role – an underestimation of the socio-economic discontent of the population of the republic. No one has analyzed how important the issue of the autonomous status of Karakalpakstan is for the population and how much it is coordinated with everything else. As it turned out, this issue became a good mobilizing factor, the organizers were able to bring several thousand people to the streets.

– There is a certain inertia of events. It is clear that people were mobilized, they were ready to take to the streets and even clash with law enforcement agencies. Everything is much deeper here. Therefore, the decision of the authorities to abolish these norms can play a role in the long term. But in this particular situation, it's unlikely. Remember, in Kazakhstan in January, gas prices were also immediately reduced, but this did not stop anyone. In fact, the Uzbek authorities are facing a very serious task – not only to quickly stabilize the situation in Karakalpakstan, but also to prevent this spark from spreading to other regions. Probably for the entire presidency of Mirziyoyev, this is the first such serious crisis for him. And his further tenure as president will largely depend on how his team will now cope with this situation.

– On a national scale, this is still a rather “peripheral” issue. Karakalpakstan in terms of area, of course, occupies 37% of the territories of Uzbekistan. But in terms of population, this is less than 6%, 2 million inhabitants, with a total number of citizens of the country of 35 million. In addition, the motive of the protesters is not entirely clear. Because the preservation of the norm on secession from Uzbekistan in the general absence of inclinations towards separatism in the region is a complete formality. There is a mixed population, the region is deserted, has no resources, no water supplies, completely dependent on subsidies from the state. This is not a Kurdistan that can stand on its own. In addition, the republic borders on Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. In fact, she simply has nowhere to go. In my opinion, Uzbekistan now just needs to offer some social programs to the republic in order to stabilize the situation there.

Prilepin called the shelling of Belgorod “responsible for Lisichansk”

Writer and political figure Zakhar Prilepin wrote on Telegram that the shelling of Belgorod is “answer for Lisichansk”. He believes that strikes on cities far from the front are the revenge of Ukraine, which  «cannot stand face to face in battle».

Prilepin wanted to warn the day before that “today they will hit Russian cities” ;, but was afraid of “causing trouble.” In his opinion,    “for every city they take, they will hit residential areas in Russia” they are thinking about sabotage work in Russia.

On July 3, Belgorod and Kursk were attacked by Ukraine. Four people died in Belgorod.

There were no casualties in Kursk. The governor of the Kursk region, Roman Starovoit, said that the military shot down two drones flying up to the regional center.

In London on the Thames formed an “island” of wet wipes

An artificial island made up of used wet wipes has formed on the Thames and has already changed the course of the river, according to The Times.

According to MP Fleur Anderson, she personally saw this island and stood on it. Its thickness in some places reaches one meter, and the area is equal to two tennis courts. The island is located near the Hammersmith Bridge and is already changing the course of the city's main river.

The government has repeatedly urged citizens to abandon this hygiene product, or at least not flush tissues down the drain. As a result, they end up in the Thames.

Most wipes are made with the addition of insoluble plastic. The authorities are studying the possibility of introducing a ban on their use.

Earlier, a bill was submitted to the State Duma of the Russian Federation to ban the sale of plastic utensils on Lake Baikal. This measure should improve the ecology in the ecozones of the Baikal natural territory.

Britain’s Foreign Secretary opposes new Minsk agreements

A poorly thought-out peace agreement would allow Russia to regroup forces and “return to the attack,” says British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss

Liz Truss

Ukraine needs a 'clean win' to restore its own security, not a poorly thought out peace deal or new Minsk agreements, said British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche.

“We all know that a poorly thought out peace agreement would allow Putin to regroup his forces and return to the attack. Therefore, we cannot afford a new Minsk agreement. Ukraine needs a clear victory that will restore its security,— she declared.

The British authorities want Kyiv to receive the maximum amount of assistance in the form of equipment and military training for the counteroffensive, Truss said. She called Britain the second country after the United States in terms of aid provided to Ukraine. According to her, London has already allocated a total of £2.3 billion ($2.78 billion) for these purposes.

When asked if the British authorities really have such funds, Truss replied that Britain's defense spending is 2.3% of GDP, but it is necessary to increase the production of military equipment, since the situation in Ukraine has shaken security in Europe and made the world more dangerous.

After the start of Russia's military operation, Western countries, including the UK, stepped up support, including military support, for Ukraine. At the end of June, during the NATO summit, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that London would allocate another £1 billion ($1.2 billion) to Kyiv, which, in particular, would go to air defense systems (air defense) and drones.

Johnson has previously opposed pushing Ukraine towards a “bad world”; with Russia. He believes that a peaceful settlement at this stage will only lead to prolonged instability and allow Vladimir Putin to endlessly manipulate both sovereign countries and international markets. The British Prime Minister urged to continue to provide military assistance to Kyiv, despite the manifestation of fatigue and hesitation in this matter.

After the start of the special operation in late February, Kyiv and Moscow began negotiations on a peace settlement, but they were completely suspended in April. The Russian side blamed Ukraine for this and considered that Kyiv withdrew from the negotiations at the direction of the Western countries. The Ukrainian authorities called the return of territories as of February 24 as a condition for the resumption of dialogue with Russia.

The Ukrainian authorities know the conditions of Moscow, despite the efforts of Washington, Kyiv will have to “understand them again” and agree, Peskov said. He believes that the West is set to “continue the war”

Dmitry Peskov

The United States and other Western countries oppose initiatives to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, forbidding Kyiv to “think and speak”; about a peace agreement, but the time for negotiations will one day come, said on the air of Rossiya 1; Representative of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

“Sooner or later, common sense will prevail. And again the turn of negotiations will come, before which the Ukrainians will have to understand once again all our conditions. They know them very well. agree to them. Sit at the table. And just to fix the document, which in many respects has already been agreed upon,— he said.

Peskov believes that Western countries are betting on the continuation of hostilities, which is why the possibilities of “pacifying the situation” there is no former demand.

At the beginning of the week, on June 28, the Kremlin noted that in Kyiv they could “stop everything before the end of the current day.” subject to an order to the Ukrainian military to lay down their arms and agreement to the conditions of Russia.

Russia's special operation in Ukraine began more than four months ago— on the night of February 24, representatives of the two countries met several times in person after that and negotiated via video link. The greatest progress was made at the end of March at a meeting in Istanbul's Dolmabahce Palace. Representatives of Ukraine then conveyed their proposals to the Russian side, after which the Russian delegation sent its response to Kyiv's proposals. There was no reaction from Ukraine, this indicates the decision of the authorities of this country to “freeze” negotiations, noted the head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky.

In Kyiv, they explained that the negotiations were influenced by what happened in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, journalists from Reuters and other publications reported on the found bodies of dead civilians. The Ministry of Defense called these data a provocation with the aim of denigrating Russia, President Vladimir Putin holds a similar opinion.

The Ukrainian authorities allowed the continuation of negotiations, subject to the strengthening of their own position in the dialogue. As the head of the delegation, David Arakhamia, said, this will be facilitated by the supply of Western weapons. “Our armed forces are already ready to use it. <…> And then, I think, we can initiate a new round of negotiations from a strengthened negotiating position, — he expects.

Announcing the start of a special operation in Ukraine, Putin said that Russia's goals were to carry out demilitarization and “denazification”; neighboring state. Moscow is also seeking to protect the people of Donbass from “the genocide by the Kyiv regime,” he argues. According to the President of Russia, the Ukrainian authorities for eight years “mocked” above them. In addition, Russia intends to achieve the salvation of the LPR and DPR and the “restoration of their statehood” within the borders of 2014.

Ukraine, in response, severed diplomatic relations with Russia, martial law was declared in the country and general mobilization was introduced. The Ukrainian authorities reject the presence of Nazi formations in the country, Medinsky said.

Peskov advised the G7 to work on morality, and not evaluate Putin’s photo

Peskov advised the G7 leaders to strengthen their moral character, and not discuss Putin's photo alt=”Peskov advised the G7 to work on morality, not evaluate Putin's photo” />

G7 leaders should work on their moral character before evaluating photos of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov in the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin».

Journalist Pavel Zarubin asked Peskov if he had any doubts about the publication of photos of Putin from vacation with a naked torso, which are now “exciting the Western public.”

“The main thing for us is that they liked them inside the country. And who do they excite there and who then starts to engage in, already according to Freud, ranting, well, this is probably their misfortune. We need to somehow strengthen our moral character,»,— said the presidential spokesman.

The Kremlin has repeatedly published photos of Putin with a naked torso. So, in August 2009, photographs appeared in the media, where he rides naked to the waist while on vacation in Tuva. In August 2017, a photo was published where the president, bare-chested and wearing dark glasses, sits sprawled on a chair, along with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, and on the other— posing with a fish he caught.

On June 26, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson jokingly suggested that G7 colleagues during a meeting at Elmau Castle in Germany undress for a photo. “In jackets? No jackets? Let's undress? We all have to show that we are cooler than Putin, — he said.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine revealed the cost of a month of maintenance of the army

Prime Minister of Ukraine Shmyhal: the maintenance of the armed forces costs Kyiv $4.4 billion a month Before Ukraine spent $5.28 billion a year on the army, now the funding of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has grown to $4.4 billion a month, Shmyhal said. He clarified that the entire budget of Ukraine per month is $8.46 billion, $4-5 billion is missing

Every month, Ukraine spends UAH 130 billion ($4.4 billion) on maintaining the armed forces, this amount is slightly less than the annual budget of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the period before the start of the Russian special operation, said the head of the Ukrainian government Denys Shmyhal in an interview with the LB portal.

&laquo ;If we [earlier] maintained the army about UAH 156 billion ($5.28 billion— RBC), it was the budget of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ukrainian army for a year, today about 130 billion UAH— this is the monthly amount. Of course, we have greatly increased social payments, demining costs, emergency rehabilitation costs, costs for internally displaced persons, — said the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

Shmyhal added that the entire budget of Ukraine for the month is approximately UAH 250 billion ($8.46 billion. — RBC ), of which up to UAH 100 billion ($3.39. — RBC) come from taxes and customs. Thus, the country's monthly need is $4-5 billion, he pointed out. The United States, the European Union, the IMF, the World Bank, the International Bank have stepped up their assistance to Ukraine, Shmygal continued, stressing that “today all our partners are actively involved and helping us.”

“I want to say that we see the situation is predictable by the end of the year, we understand how we will execute the budget, we feel the support of our partners, this gives us the opportunity today to think about the defense of Ukraine, about supporting the armed forces and work quite calmly,— summed up Shmygal.

According to RBC, from February 24 to the end of June, the United States, Great Britain, other countries and international organizations allocated support to Ukraine in excess of $75 billion. Assistance to Ukraine exceeded its budget revenues for the year by 1.6 times. Of this amount, financial support accounts for $27.9 billion, of which $11.6 billion was provided by the EU organizations, $9.5 billion— USA.

For almost three months of hostilities— from February 24 to mid-May— Ukraine's spending on military needs amounted to $8.3 billion, noted in the Ministry of Finance. The ministry clarified that in April the country received only 60% of the planned tax revenues. In mid-May, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine warned of possible “painful measures” to save the country's economy if the fighting continues for another three to four months. “The situation is very difficult, I will not underestimate it. But we can handle it,— said Minister Sergei Marchenko. He estimates the decline in Ukraine's GDP this year by 44%.

A close estimate (45%) was given at the end of April by the World Bank, which at the same time estimated the damage to Ukraine from the Russian special operation at $60 billion. These are preliminary calculations that do not take into account economic costs: losses due to the destruction of buildings and infrastructure, noted the head of the organization, David Malpass .

According to Bloomberg, by September 1, the Ukrainian authorities will have to pay $1.41 billion in public debt. According to agency sources, Kyiv is considering several scenarios for restructuring obligations. One of the options involves the use of frozen Russian assets as collateral (Bloomberg interlocutors doubted the legal prospects of such a measure) or a request on behalf of the issuer to holders of securities to change the conditions.

As noted by the agency, the bonds due in September are traded at a discount of more than 40% to their face value.

The White House with the phrase “Now is not the time” assessed the prospect of dialogue on Ukraine

The United States will help Ukraine achieve military success, the decision on the negotiations is up to Kyiv, Kirby said. He added: it’s not time for them yet, Zelensky thinks so too. In Kyiv, they said earlier that they were waiting for a strengthening of the negotiating position The White House with the phrase “Now is not the time” assessed the prospect of a dialogue on Ukraine” />

John Kirby

The decision regarding the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to resolve the conflict will be taken only by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, the US authorities intend to help him in this support, but the time for dialogue has not yet come. This was stated by the coordinator of the National Security Council for strategic communications John Kirby on Fox News Sunday.

“And [what] we’re going to do is keep making sure he can succeed on the battlefield, so he can succeed at the [negotiation] table. But even President Zelensky will tell you that now is not the time for such discussions, — he said (quote from Politico).

Kirby noted that Ukraine's response to the Russian special operation was better than expected by the West, now the Ukrainian military is “going on the counteroffensive.”

>

U.S. intelligence does not believe peace in Ukraine is possible “at this stage,” U.S. intelligence chief Avril Haynes said in late June, calling the conclusion “obvious to all.” President Vladimir Putin's plans “to take over most of Ukraine” have not changed, she continued, summarizing: “The picture remains rather bleak, and Russia's attitude towards the West is getting tougher.”

At the same time, the White House has repeatedly expressed confidence that Russia does not want to negotiate with Ukraine. “We hope that everything will end with negotiations, but now we do not see that this comes from the Kremlin,” — said press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

The Russian authorities take the opposite position: on July 3, the Kremlin accused the United States and other Western countries of opposing initiatives to resolve the conflict. According to presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the West is determined to “continue the war,” but sooner or later “common sense will prevail.” He is sure that the authorities of Ukraine “will have to understand once again all our conditions”; and agree to them. “Sit down at the table. And just to fix the document, which in many respects has already been agreed upon,— summoned Peskov.

Russia launched a military special operation in Ukraine over four months ago— on the night of February 24, soon the parties began a diplomatic discussion of ways to resolve the conflict. The delegations of Moscow and Kyiv met several times in person, continued negotiations via video link, and the greatest progress was made at the end of March in Istanbul.

The delegation of Ukraine then handed over to the representatives of Moscow its proposals on ways to resolve the conflict, soon Russia sent a response document, but there was no reaction from Kyiv, said the head of the Russian delegation, presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky. He considered this situation a “freeze” negotiations by official Kyiv.

In Kyiv, it was explained that the change in attitude towards the negotiations was caused by what happened in the city of Bucha, Kyiv region. In early April, journalists from Reuters and other publications reported on the bodies of dead civilians found in the city. The Ministry of Defense considers these data a provocation to denigrate Russia, Putin voiced the same assessment.

Ukraine can start a new stage of dialogue with Russia if its negotiating position is strengthened, said the head of the Kyiv delegation David Arachamia. He believes that, first of all, this can be achieved through the supply of weapons from the West. “Our armed forces are already ready to use it,” — he assured.

Strengthening of the negotiating position may occur by the end of August, specified Arakhamia. He explained that a counteroffensive of the Ukrainian military is expected during this period.

The Foreign Ministry accused France of violating the secrecy of the talks between Putin and Macron

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova accused France of violating the secrecy of the talks between Putin and Macron =”The Foreign Ministry accused France of violating the secrecy of the talks between Putin and Macron” />

Emmanuel Macron

France violated the confidentiality of President Emmanuel Macron's talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. This was stated by the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova in the program “Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov”, TASS reports.

“When calls are made at the highest level, this, of course, is a confidential story. It turned out that a couple of months ago, when Macron called the President of Russia, the entire conversation was recorded by a journalistic camera with journalists who were sitting and filming it all, — she said.

On June 30, France 2 TV channel premiered a documentary film about the Elysee Palace directed by Guy Lagache. The picture was called “President, Europe and War”. It tells about Macron's attempts to reduce tensions around Ukraine, including through a conversation with Putin on February 20— four days before the start of Russia's military operation in Ukraine.

The publication Le Temps published a transcript of the negotiations between the presidents a few days before the release of the film. During the call, Putin accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of lying about preparing to implement the Minsk agreements. Macron reaffirmed his commitment to the opinion that they must be carried out.

“Listen, Emmanuel, I don't understand what your problem is with the separatists. At least they did everything necessary, at our insistence, to start a constructive dialogue with the Ukrainian authorities,— then said the Russian president.

The presidents then argued about the right of the “separatists” to draw up a roadmap on the situation in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, which, under the Minsk agreements, were to be considered by the authorities of Ukraine.

In response, Putin stressed that the government of Ukraine came to power as a result of a coup, and was not elected democratically.

Later, the French leader invited Putin to hold a meeting of all parties to the Ukrainian conflict. The Russian president promised to study the proposal after the conversation.

In addition, Macron asked Putin to “calm down” their troops near the border with Ukraine. The Russian leader promised that the military exercises would end on the evening of February 20, but indicated that the troops would remain at the border until the situation in Donbass was resolved.

During the conversation, the French president conveyed to his Russian counterpart the words of US leader Joe Biden that that he is ready to meet in Geneva in the next few days.

In the LPR announced the beginning of the battle for Seversk

The fighting for Seversk began, the LPR Ministry of Internal Affairs reported. According to the published map, forces are advancing from the northwest, north and east. According to UNICEF, more than 12 thousand people live in the city, it is located 15 km from Lysichansk

Fighting began for the city of Seversk, located in the Bakhmut district, Vitaly Kiselev, assistant to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Lugansk People's Republic, said on Telegram .

“The battles for Seversk have already begun”,— he wrote.

Kiselev attached a map to the publication, which indicates that the advancing forces are moving from the east, north and northwest, while Ukrainian troops are depicted leaving Seversk in the direction of the south and southwest.

According to the service « Yandex.Maps», the city is located about 15 km from Lisichansk, it is separated from Slavyansk by about 25 km.

UNICEF reported that 12.3 thousand people live in Seversk. The website of the Bakhmut District Council says that 13.4 thousand people live in the Seversk city territorial community (which unites seven settlements, including Seversk).

Seversk is located on the territory that the authorities of the DPR consider to be part of the republic, since the city is located within the borders of the Donetsk region of Ukraine. Russia recognized the republics of Donbass within the administrative boundaries of the regions of Ukraine. In Kyiv and most other countries of the world, they insist that the territories controlled by the LPR and DPR are part of Ukraine.

The participation of the LPR forces in hostilities on the territory of the DPR was previously announced by the head of the Donetsk Republic Denis Pushilin. He noted that such a decision would allow “to speed up the liberation operation.” According to Pushilin, before the forces of the DPR helped the LPR to “close the situation”, now the “logical conclusion” in that area will provide support in return.

On the afternoon of July 3, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to President Vladimir Putin on the liberation of the LNR. The head of the Ministry of Defense said that Lisichansk (a satellite city of Severodonetsk) and nearby settlements, in particular the city of Novodruzhesk and the village of Belaya Gora, were taken under control.

Russian special operation in Ukraine began more than four months ago— on the night of February 24, such a decision was made by President Vladimir Putin. He claimed that for eight years official Kyiv had been pursuing a policy of “genocide”; in relation to the inhabitants of Donbass, Moscow intends to “restore statehood”; LPR and DPR, to carry out “demilitarization” and “denazification” Ukraine.

«The ultimate goal I marked— this is the liberation of Donbass, the protection of these people and the creation of conditions that would guarantee the security of Russia itself, — Putin added at the end of June, urging not to rush the military and not to talk about the timing of the completion of the operation.

Australia to ban gold imports from Russia

Sanctions against Russian gold were imposed by the United States, Canada and Japan. The European Union is working on similar restrictive measures, wrote Bloomberg

Australia will ban gold imports from Russia and impose sanctions against 16 Russian ministers, Prime Minister Anthony Albaniz said at a press conference in Kyiv, Reuters reports. The total number of Russians who are under the restrictive measures of Canberra will reach 843.

Visit of the Head of the Australian Government to Ukraine— the first in relations between the two countries, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a press conference. He thanked Australia for “substantial assistance, including defense.” Albaniz announced the transfer of military equipment to Kyiv, including 20 Bushmaster armored personnel carriers. Zelensky asked for the supply of these armored personnel carriers, in April the Australian government agreed to their transfer.

At the end of June, sanctions against Russian gold were imposed by the United States. According to the US Treasury, the decision was made jointly with the UK, Canada and Japan. The ban does not apply to gold mined in Russian deposits, which was exported outside Russia before June 28, 2022, the department explained. Gold is a “major share of exports” that brings Russia “tens of billions of dollars”, and the US and its allies want to cut the income of the Russian authorities, US President Joe Biden explained the decision to impose sanctions.

According to Bloomberg, the European Union is working on sanctions against Russian gold. The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, had previously said that the EU authorities want to assess whether such a measure would harm the economy of the union itself.

The desire to reduce Russia's revenues, including from gold exports, was mentioned in a joint statement of the G7 countries in end of June. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the threat of blocking the export of gold to the West, said that the precious metals market is large and if one of them loses its attractiveness due to illegal actions, there is a “reorientation” to another.

Russia— one of the largest gold exporters in the world. In 2021, Russian enterprises produced 346.4 tons of gold, most of the production (87%) was exported, which brought in $17.4 billion, follows from the data of the Ministry of Finance and the Federal Customs Service.
