Will Smith shared some intimate details about his marriage to Jada Pinkett-Smith in a new Oprah interview, revealing if he and his partner of over 25 years are open in their relationship.

Will Smith, 53, got candid with Oprah Winfrey, 67, on Friday, answering some hard-hitting questions about his long-running, unconventional marriage to Jada Pinkett-Smith, 50. Fans have had questions for a while since Jada admitted to a sexual relationship with August Alsina, 29, last year, and Will also revealed he had been unfaithful before. Oprah took Will to task on Nov. 5 for her AppleTV+ The Oprah Conversation series, interviewing the movie star as he promoted his new memoir, Will.

“We realized that it was a fantasy illusion that we could make each other happy,” Will said of his marriage to Jada — a union that began when they wed in 1997. “We agreed that she had to make herself happy and I had to make myself happy. Then we were going to present ourselves back to the relationship already happy — versus demanding that the other person fill our empty cup.”

The Aladdin star admitted it was more “contentious” for him as he and Jada pursued this new, non-traditional journey toward happiness. “[I said] ‘Go figure out if you can be happy and prove to me it’s even possible.’ I’m gonna do me and you do you.”

In his book, Will wrote about the “the power of loving in freedom,” acknowledging that he and his wife are “both imperfect people” who are trying to “figure out how to be in this world joyfully.” Oprah then pressed the Men in Black star to explain what “loving freedom” meant and whether it pointed to him and Jada being in an open relationship.

“You love in freedom with everybody except your partner,” Will stated, explaining how people tend to give more space in friendships or parent-children relationships versus a restrictive marriage. With him and Jada, he said it’s “friendship versus marital prison,” which caused Oprah to ask if he meant they could have other sexual partners. “So we talk about everything,” he shared. “I think the difficulty that people have and difficulty in discussing it is people only think in terms of sex.”

He added, “People are trying to put something on it: ‘Will and Jada — what they doing with other people?’ Will and Jada ain’t really doing too much of nothin,’” he laughed, mocking the speculation. “Will and Jada are on a spiritual journey to cleanse the poisonous, unloving parts of our hearts. And we’re doing it together in this lifetime no matter what.”

Will also revealed that one night, after drinking ayahuasca and questioning, “Do I have to be married? What is it?” he had a vision of Jada as soil and himself as a seed. He saw the hand of God putting them together and a beautiful tree growing out of it. That vision made the Suicide Squad actor start thinking of his partnership with Jada as a “fruitful interaction that is meant to feed the people around us. Whether I liked our interaction or not, I started feeling in my heart we were special together. We were condoned by the universe.”

He added, “I haven’t talked about that publicly.”

Willow Smith, 19, is “so proud” of Will Smith, 52, and Jada Pinkett Smith, 49, for admitting they went through a private separation “years ago” and Jada ended up having an “entanglement” with singer August Alsina, 28, in a July episode of Jada’s Facebook Watch show, Red Table Talk. The daughter of the actor and actress sat down with her mom, grandmother Adrienne Banfield-Jones, and their guest Brene Brown, 54, to discuss vulnerability on the Sept. 28 episode of the talk show series and didn’t hesitate to share her positive opinions about the shocking moment that almost made led to them ending the marriage. “I’m so proud of you, to be able to see you and Dad do that, for me, that was like, OK that was the real deal,” Willow said while sitting at the table.

Jada responded by saying that “one of the things that I’m deeply grateful in this whole process between you and I is that we have really gotten to that new place of unconditional love.” Will responded by saying, “Cause’ I wasn’t sure I was ever going to speak to you again. The fact that I’m speaking to you again is a miracle.”

“You gotta go through some sh-t to get the answers,” Jada further explained. “I’m just happy because I definitely believe you and I never ever, ever thought we’d make it back.” The content husband and wife ended the big reveal discussion on a positive note through a clever Bad Boys quote – “We ride together. August Alsina is opening up about what his status is with Jada Pinkett and Will Smith after she admitted to having an ‘entanglement’ with the young singer.

August Alsina claims he never meant to “cause trouble” for Jada Pinkett and Will Smith, after he publicly alleged in June that he’d had a loving relationship with the 48-year-old actress and that her 51-year-old husband had given it his “blessing.” In a new interview, the 27-year-old singer says he still has “deep respect” for the pair, who was forced to address Jada’s “entanglement” with August while simultaneously revealing on a July 10 episode of Red Table Talk that their marriage hit a point where they had secretly separated.

“It’s just a part of life, and it’s a part of the journey,” August tells PEOPLE magazine. “There’s a lot of love there. Sometimes truth is complicated and difficult. But [my relationship with them isn’t] broken at all.” August also says that he has no regrets about his June 2020 interview with Angela Yee where he said that he “truly loved” and “devoted” himself to Jada. “I’m always going to be in the driver’s seat of my life and control my narrative,” he says. “I can’t let anybody else do that for me.”

August claims that rumors about his involvement with Jada began to affect his livelihood and that he felt that he needed to come clean with his side of the story. “I never really cared about what people thought of me, but my personal life started to seep into my business life,” he explains. “There were certain falsities about me, and it affected my business relationships. I could understand why it would look like I’m reckless or disrespectful so it really started to affect my livelihood, and I’m never OK with that.”

August ended up spilling a lot of information about the alleged status of Will and Jada’s marriage when he told Angela about his relationship with the Gotham star. “I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation,” the singer told the radio personality. “Due to the transformation from their marriage to [a] life partnership that they spoken on several times, and not involving romanticism, he gave me his blessing.”

“I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life. I truly and really, really deeply loved, and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it. So much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody,” he noted, adding, “I really loved the person that I experienced that [with] and know what [that feels] like — if some people never get that in this lifetime.”

Will then appeared alongside Jada on RTT to address the situation. The pair admitted that they had secretly separated for a period of time, which is when Jada admitted she got into her “entanglement” with August. “I was done with your a**,” laughed Will, before going on to explain that at one point, they had separated so Jada could “go figure out how to make yourself happy and I’ll figure out how to make myself happy.” Jada even claimed, “I definitely believe you and I never ever, ever thought we’d make it back,” but that now, “we have really gotten to that new place of unconditional love.”

August Alsina has no misgivings about his ‘entanglement’ with Jada Pinkett while she was separated from Will Smith. The singer says that he could ‘never regret being given the gift of experience and love.’

August Alsina is continuing to reminisce with warm feelings about his “entanglement” with still-married Jada Pinkett Smith. The 48-year-old actress used the term to describe her relationship with the young singer during a July 17 Facebook Watch Red Table Talk. The 27-year-old says that he doesn’t regret a thing about their time together, as it taught him what true love is. “I don’t regret it at all because I know that on this planet, there is not much harmony, and there is not much love, so when you’re actually given love, real love that you’ve never experienced, it is a gift,” he told Vulture in a new interview.

“No matter how complex or hard it may be to face or whatever, that’s the gift. I’m aware of that. I’m aware that I was gifted. It’s been a blessing to me, even the really hard parts and the tough parts of it,” August continued. The story of his involvement with Jada was first revealed on June 30, when August told The Breakfast Club‘s Angela Yee that, “I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really, deeply loved and have a ton of love for her (Jada). I devoted myself to it. I gave my full self to it.”

In further explaining why he has no regrets about his “entanglement” with Jada — who was secretly separated from movie superstar husband Will Smith51, at the time — August explained, “There is no right or wrong here. With there being no right or wrong, there is no regret. There’s nothing to regret because it’s not something I went searching for.

August then elaborated that he didn’t chase Jada because she was married, and that he wasn’t a victim either. “It’s not something I went after. I don’t go after people’s girls. Nobody preyed on me or was a predator towards me. This is none of that. It just is. It just was. So I don’t feel any reason to have regrets. Every lesson man, every, every relationship, every experience is a blessing. You learn from it, whether good or bad. I could never say that I regret being given the gift of experience and love. It’s a lesson.”

Jada revealed on RTT that, “Four and a half years ago…I started a friendship with August and we actually became really, really good friends,” Jada explained. “And it all started with him just needing some help, me wanting to help his health, his mental state.” She was joined by Will, and explained, “You and I were going through a very difficult time.” The I Am Legend star replied, “I was done with you.” Jada added, “We broke up. We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time.”

Then Jada used the now infamous “entanglement” term to describe what she had with August. “From there as time went on I got into a different kind of entanglement with August.” Jada explained that she and Will were “separated amicably,” and then clarified that when she used the term “entanglement,” that it was actually a “relationship,” admitting, “Yes, it was a relationship absolutely.” Will and Jada later went on to repair their marriage.

In his interview with Vulture, August had no problem with the “entanglement” label. “I don’t know why that word is such an issue. I would agree [with Jada]. If you look up the definition of ‘entanglement,’ it is a complex and difficult relationship. It was exactly that. I think it’s just the language that probably stuck out to people. But I definitely have to agree with it being an entanglement. It definitely was something complicated, a complicated dynamic.”

With the drama involving his parents’ marriage, Jaden Smith needed some time to chill out with pals. He headed to the beach with Kendall Jenner to get his mind off his folks’ very public marital confessions.

Who better for Jaden Smith to hang out with right now than Kendall Jenner? His mom Jada Pinkett, 48, recently admitted to a relationship with singer-songwriter August Alsina, 27, while secretly separated from movie superstar husband Will Smith, 51. Jaden could use some time around a pal like Kendall, who is used to dealing with plenty of high profile family drama. The pair hit the beach in Malibu along with several friends and Kendall’s Doberman Pinscher Pyro on July 12. The group was all smiles while sitting in the sand, as Kendall later bared her incredible bikini body for a dip in the ocean.

Kendall sported a purple two piece with white patterns on it as she went for a swim. The 24-year-old covered up her incredible model body in a white t-shirt while lying on a beach blanket with Jaden. He played a little matchy matchy with Kenny, wearing a purple and pink swirled tie-dyed shirt, which he took off for their sunbathing session.

Kendall put her brown locks up in a loose bun behind her head, and donned a dark baseball cap. There was still no missing her stunning face, and without sunglasses she was completely recognizable. She looked so pretty makeup free while chilling out at the beach among friends. Kendall and Jaden go way back as pals, and have known each other for years.

Their beach session came just two days after Jaden’s dad Will joined his mom Jada for a special episode of her Facebook Watch show Red Table Talk. They addressed August’s claims that he and Jada had a deep and passionate romance during her marriage to Will. August also claimed he had the Independence Day star’s blessing to go forth with the relationship with Jada.

“Four and a half years ago…I started a friendship with August and we actually became really, really good friends,” Jada explained. “And it all started with him just needing some help, me wanting to help his health, his mental state.” She recalled to Will that, “You and I were going through a very difficult time.” He replied, “I was done with you.” Jada continued, “We broke up. We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time.”

“From there as time went on I got into a different kind of entanglement with August. One thing I want to clean up…about you giving ‘permission’ which is…the only person that can give permission in that circumstance is myself,” she said. Jada explained that she and will were “separated amicably,” and then clarified that when she said the term “entanglement,” “Yes, it was a relationship absolutely.” Will and Jada didn’t split for good, revealing that instead, “We have really gotten to that new place of unconditional love.”

After calling herself to the ‘Red Table,’ Jada Pinkett Smith confirmed she and August Alsina did have a relationship, and Will Smith says it’s a ‘miracle’ that their marriage is still standing.

“One thing I’ll say about you and is, it’s there’s never been secrets,” Jada Pinkett Smith, 48, said to Will Smith, 51, during the July 10 episode of her Facebook Walk talk show, Red Table Talk. After singer August Alsina, 27, publicly claimed that he and Jada had a relationship, the normally private couple felt like they had to address these claims. In the talk, Jada did confirm that she had an “entanglement” with August, but it was during a time when she and Will were separated. “I was done with your a–,” laughed Will, before explaining that, at one point, they had separated so Jada could “go figure out how to make yourself happy and I’ll figure out how to make myself happy.”

“I really felt like we could be over,” said Will, stressing at how close he and Jada came to calling it quits. Later in the Red Table Talk, he pointed out that, “We came together young,” said Will, “and we were both broken in our own ways, and to be able to make mistakes without the fear of losing your family is so critical.” Jada responded by saying that “one of the things that I’m deeply grateful in this whole process between you and I is that we have really gotten to that new place of unconditional love.” To that, Will replied, “Cause’ I wasn’t sure I was ever going to speak to you again. The fact that I’m speaking to you again is a miracle.”

“You gotta go through some sh-t to get the answers,” added Jada. “I’m just happy because I definitely believe you and I never ever, ever thought we’d make it back.” Will said that he now feels “a real power” in knowing that he has someone is “riding with you no matter what, and you really can’t know that until you go through some stuff.”

Both Jada and Will noted that this separation (and her relationship with August) happened years ago and that they can laugh about it since it’s in the past. Will even joked about how he’s “gonna get you back first.” “I think you got me back,” she remarked. “I think we’re good on that.” They even ended on a Bad Boys quote – “We ride together. We die together. Bad Marriage for life.”

There have been rumors about Will and Jada’s marriage ever since they tied the knot in 1997. During August’s June 30 interview with Angela Lee, he claimed that he and Jada were romantically involved, and Will “gave me his blessing.” Will and Jada, during the Red Table Talk, denied that, but Jada suggested that August made those claims so he wouldn’t come off as a “homewrecker.” She also noted, “The only person who can give permission in that particular circumstance is myself.”

Wait – August Alsina lyrics

Lyrics August Alsina – Wait

I’m not telling you to wait on me
I’m not telling you to wait on me, no
I’m not telling you to wait, but I’m hoping that you’ll waaait.

I know this may not be my place
But I got something I should say to you
Sometimes I’m in a different space
But that don’t change the way I feel for you, I do
This may not be the best time
I got a lot going inside my mind
Don’t think for a minute that I’m a fool
Don’t know what I’ll do if I lose you.

You need someone who will be there to hold you
I can’t even say that it’s fair, but I do
Hope you know I’ll always be here if you need me
What I gotta say isn’t easy.

If you gotta leave
Girl, I won’t stop you, so do what you gotta do
I don’t want you to go
But I got a few things in life that I gotta do
I’m not telling you to waaait
I’m not telling you to waaait on me
I’m not telling you to waaait
I’m not telling you to waaait on me
But I’m hoping that you’ll waaait
Waaait, waaait, waaait, waaait, waaait.

I told you when I met you girl that I would need patience
You said that you understood so I thought that you could take it
We have a real good thing
Nothing should come between us
Now you want some things I never promised
You say something missing, I was always honest
Telling you the way that I felt for you
Could be something real that I never knew.

You need someone who will be there to hold you
I can’t even say that it’s fair, but I do
Hope you know I’ll always be here if you need me
What I gotta say isn’t easy.

If you gotta leave
Girl, I won’t stop you, so do what you gotta do
I don’t want you to go
But I got a few things in life that I gotta do
I’m not telling you to waaait
I’m not telling you to waaait on me
I’m not telling you to waaait
I’m not telling you to waaait on me
But I’m hoping that you’ll waaait
But I’m hoping that you’ll waaait
But I’m hoping that you’ll waaait
Waaait, waaait, waaait, waaait, waaaittt.
