When it comes to hip-hop, these are the kings and queens who wear the crown. Check out the last two decades’ worth of Best Rap Album winners, from Naughty By Nature to Tyler, The Creator to Cardi B.

Hip-hop reigns supreme. The genre — which continues to dominate the culture and the charts, per Billboard – will get its accolades at the upcoming Grammy Awards. Though the Recording Academy has had a complicated history regarding hip-hop, the award show will spotlight a handful of performers when it hands out the Best Rap Album award.

The Grammys announced in 1995 that they were creating the Best Rap Album category, six years after The Recording Academy created the Best Rap Performance Grammy. Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff won the inaugural Best Rap Performance Grammy in 1989 for “Parents Just Don’t Understand,” but they led a boycott of the ceremony after the Grammys said they wouldn’t air the Best Rap Performance category over broadcast time constraints. “We don’t have the problem with the Grammy as an award or the Grammys as an institution. We just had a problem with the 1989 design of the awards show,” Will said in a 1989 interview with Entertainment Tonight. “We chose to boycott. We feel that it’s a slap in the face.”

In 1996, at the 38th Grammy Awards, Naughty By Nature won the first Best Rap Album award for Poverty’s Paradise. The album beat out Skee-Lo’s I Wish, Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony’s E.1999 Eternal, and 2Pac’s Me Against the World. The following year, Lauryn Hill became the first female artist to win in the category when she, as part of Fugees, won Best Rap Album for The Score. That year, A Tribe Called Quest (Beats, Rhymes and Life), 2Pac (All Eyez On Me), LL Cool J (Mr. Smith), and Coolio (Gangsta’s Paradise) were all nominated.

Ahead of the 2022 ceremony, Eminem reigns with the most wins (6) in the category. Kanye West (4) is close behind. Only Outkast and Kendrick Lamar have won Best Rap Album more than once. The Roots have the most nominations without a win (five), while Jay-Z has the record for most nominations overall, with eleven. Cardi has the distinction of being the first solo female rapper to win Best Rap Album. She claimed the crown in 2019 with Invasion of Privacy.

This Year’s Nominees

That multi-Best Rap Album winners club could get a new member following the 64th Grammy Awards. Nas’s King’s Disease II is nominated, as is Tyler, The Creator’s Call Me If You Get Lost. Both performers have won in the past. J. Cole could win his first Best Rap Album Grammy with The Off-Season. Kanye West’s Donda is also nominated. Drake’s Certified Lover Boy was also nominated, but he withdrew all his nominations in December 2021. He has yet to explain why, but judging by his past comments about the Grammys, it’s not hard to guess the reason behind this move.

Nearly two years after the death of Juice WRLD, the rapper’s legacy continues to shine bright, and helping keep his spirit alive is Justin Bieber on Juice’s new track.

December 8, 2021 marks two years since the world lost Juice WRLD to an accidental overdose. Two days following this sad anniversary, his estate will drop Fighting Demons, his second posthumous album, and fans got a taste today (Dec. 3) with “Wandered To LA.” In the new song, Juice (born Jarad Higgins) teams up with Justin Bieber, both confronting their demons as they sing about drug use and mental health.

“I wandered to LA hopin’ to explore, little did I know, I’d find a little more,” he sings. “Love at my hotel room door, from the bed to the hotel room floor.” Later, he touches on substance issues and mental health. “Maybe it’s the love, maybe it’s the drugs, maybe it’s because my girlfriend is the plug,” he sings, later adding, “She loves drugs, she goes hardcore, she’s hidin’ from the truth, inside of the rug . . . you see the ghost on her front porch, you see the blood at her front door.”

“Wandered to LA” comes three weeks after “Already Dead,” the first single from Fighting Demons. That was a song fans were demanding for years. Juice WRLD first previewed the track on his Instagram in 2018, per Genius. After his passing in 2019, some thought the song had been lost. However, in March 2021, Lil Bibby – the manager of Juice’s label, Grade A Productions – tweeted a snippet of the track, along with the message, “I will find it and it will be on the album.” A few months later, Juice’s co-manager Peter Jideonwo confirmed that the track had been discovered. “Bibby found Already Dead!!!” he posted to Instagram. “The song is most likely going to be on the album. This is the song everyone wants and now, we will finally get it.”

Two years since Juice WRLD’s accidental overdose, “Already Dead” showed an artist struggling with mental health and substance issues. “ You can see the pain in my laugh,” he raps on the chorus. “Demons comin’ back from the past / Feelin’ like I’m ’bout to relapse / Voices in my head / All I can hear them say / Is everyone wants me dead / Bitch, I’m already dead.”

Fighting Demons — once thought to be called The Party Never Ends — is the follow-up to Juice’s first posthumous album, 2020’s Legends Never Die. Juice’s mother, Carmela Wallace, announced on Nov. 11 that the album would arrive in early December, shortly after the two-year anniversary of his death. “There was nothing Jarad ‘Juice WRLD’ Higgins enjoyed more than delivering new music to his millions of fans around the world,” she said in a statement, per Rolling Stone. “He left behind an astonishingly deep catalog of music that will ensure his fans will have new songs to listen to for years to come. Jarad was always searingly honest about his struggles and through his musical genius, he articulated what was on his heart and mind vividly through his art. He never gave up and his friends and family never gave up on offering their support to him.”

2021 will close out with more Juice WRLD. HBO announced the release dates for the new slate of films in its Music Box series, per Pitchfork. This round of documentaries will cover Alanis Morissette, DMX, Kenny G, Juice, and Robert Stigwood, the man behind Saturday Night Fever. Juice’s documentary, Juice WRLD: Into the Abyss, will premiere on December 16. It will be the last documentary to air, following Jagged (Nov. 18) DMX: Don’t Try to Understand (Nov. 25), Listening to Kenny G (Dec. 2), and Mr. Saturday Night (Dec. 9).

DMX’s mini-me daughter Sonovah is already taking after her dad! The eight-year-old performed at a bar in Texas, after stealing the show at her father’s memorial.

It seems DMX‘s daughter Sonovah Hillman Jr. certainly inherited some of her dad’s musical gift! At the tender age of eight, the daughter of the rap icon, who died at the age of 50 just two months ago, took the stage in her father’s place. DMX was slated to perform at the Wildcatter Saloon in Katy, Texas, on May 29, however little Sonovah took the stage instead to offer her take on her dad’s classic “Slippin’”. She rocked a white graphic tee, featuring an image of her dad, along with a pink tulle skirt and two adorable buns in her hair for the performance.

“Thank you so much @wildcatter_saloon I won’t ever forget you giving me the opportunity,” she wrote on Instagram. “My first concert forever grateful big thank you and shout out to Justin, John, Carmen, and Scott. When I make it big I’m coming back. I promise.” Fans were quick to congratulate her on the achievement, with one follower writing, “That’s Dmx soul she about to take Over the world,” while another commented, “Hi baby. Keep going! That’s that Yonkers spirit in you kid!”

Fans of the late rapper would recall the youngster totally stole the spotlight at her father’s emotional memorial service when she performed an original rap. “I’m growing, I’m learning, to hold my head up. My daddy’s still holding my hand so I gotta get up,” she sang. The rapper’s final interview was also recently aired on TV One, and the father-of-15 opened up about the joys and challenges of fatherhood during the revealing interview.

“Teach your children the principles they should have and teach them their values…” the hip-hop star, born Earl Simmons, said. “And to see it come into play. Just being someone that… I like being someone that like, ‘Whatever you want to do. Come talk to me.’ Whatever… I don’t give a f***. It is what it is.” He added, “At the end of the day, parents are not good parents just because they have a child. They’re just parents. Two people f***ed. They had a baby. They don’t get a parent degree as soon as the baby comes out.”

In his final TV interview the rapper revealed how he got a little too close for comfort to the late singer on a music video set.

DMX warming Aaliyah’s arms up while she sat between his legs on a music video set enraged his then wife Tashera Simmons, the rapper revealed in his final ever TV interview. The behind-the-scenes story was shared on An Uncensored Special: DMX The Icon, which aired on TV One on May 17.

During the show both DMX and his ex-wife shared their version of what happened when the hip-hop star shot the “Come Back In One Piece” music video with Aaliyah. The song was released in 2000, a year before the R&B singer’s tragic death.

“So, we’re shooting the video. I was married at the time so I brought my wife and my dog to the video set,” DMX, 50, said. “And wifey’s holding the dog way over there and, as the scene went on, I’m sitting on the top of the bench and [Aaliyah’s] sitting in between my legs. She had on a T-shirt. At least I had on a jean jacket. So, in between takes, I was like warming her arms up.”

DMX demonstrated what he meant by mimicking how he used his hands to rub up and down Aaliyah’s bare arms. Tashera continued the story and it’s clear that she wasn’t impressed by the chemistry she witnessed between her husband and the “Try Again” singer.

“Sometimes you’re just trying to warm a friend up but it was just a little bit too cozy,” the mother to four of DMX’s children said. “We had this connection that was just insane. Like he would feel my energy. And…I had that dog and I really just wanted to let it go, to be honest with you.”

DMX agreed that he could tell his wife was mad but it didn’t stop him. He carried on regardless. “And I just felt the stare coming from wifey over there,” he said. “I just glimpsed and I just said, ‘You know what, I’ll deal with that later. Come on girl.’”

DMX with his ex-wife Tashera Simmons who was on the music video set that he shot with Aaliyah. (Shutterstock)

Despite her fury, Tashera managed to keep the peace. “In my head I’m like, no this n****a ain’t sitting here on set like he ain’t got a damn wife. And, when I tell you I just stood there and I was looking and the next thing you know I see him look over at me. And he looked over at me with this look… And he just turned back around.

“I felt like ripping up the whole set that day… But I had to keep it together because I had to be the wife and woman of class. But I wanted to beat the living hell out of him that day I’ll be honest with you. And Aaliyah. Excuse me, I’m sorry Aaliyah. I’m like, she know better. She know he got a wife. I was over it. That was a time, yeah. I’ll never forget that.”

The incident didn’t end the Simmons’ marriage. That came when they divorced in 2014. Sadly Aaliyah died in a tragic plane crash in August 2001. She was just 22-years-old.

DMX shared his memories of Aaliyah with TV One for the ‘Uncensored’ series. (Courtesy of TV One).

DMX, who also co-starred with her in the 2000 movie Romeo Must Die, admitted that he was shocked when he was told of her sudden death. “When I found out about the crash…I just couldn’t accept it,” he said. “I was like, no. Somebody would have told me.”

“That was a rough situation,” he added. “Like, damn. Really? Why her? You never know when God’s gonna call the angels home.”

An Uncensored Special: DMX The Icon included an interview that the rapper gave to TV One as part of their Uncensored series. The Uncensored DMX episode premiered on May 16 and will re-air on the network on May 22 at 11am ET.

50 Cent is coming hard at DMX’s former business partner Irv Gotti for claiming the legendary rapper OD’d on crack mixed with fentanyl.

50 Cent is furious with record executive and Murder Inc. co-founder Irv Gotti for claiming in a radio interview that his former business partner DMX suffered a heart attack stemming from a “bad dose of crack.” The rapper — real name Earl Simmonsdied at a White Plains, NY hospital on Friday, Apr. 9, one week after suffering a massive heart attack at his home. Fif called Irv an “idiot” for making his claims that DMX’s condition was caused by crack laced with the highly potent synthetic opioid fentanyl.

Fiddy — real name Curtis Jackson III — posted the audio clip of Irv making the statement to his Instagram page on Thurs. Apr. 29. The Power executive producer wrote in the caption, “This guy is a idiot, did he just say DMX died from smoking crack and fentanyl! why would he say that?”

A post shared by 50 Cent (@50cent)

Gotti, who signed DMX to Def Jam Records in the 1990’s, said in an Apr. 23 interview with 107.5 WGCI in Chicago, “When he got to the hospital, he got diagnosed with COVID and he couldn’t breathe — you know that COVID messes with your respiratory system — so that’s why he had to get hooked up to the ventilator. But they said before he did, they was, ‘His brain died.’”

For Irv — real name Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr. — he never wanted to see 50-year-old DMX living in a vegetative state. “Once they said that, I was like, ‘I don’t want to see X like that,’” Gotti explained. “I said, ‘If he comes back, I want him to come back and be X. If he’s gonna be brain dead and a vegetable, I don’t want to see him like that,’ you know what I’m saying? I think when it got down to it, he couldn’t survive without being on that machine. He’s gone.”

While 50 Cent didn’t share an Instagram post mourning DMX, he’s furious with the rapper’s former business parter Irv Gotti for claiming X died from a ‘bad dose of crack.’ Photo credit: Shutterstock.

Irv said that he was “at peace” with the fact that DMX was “with God now. He’s such a spiritually connected person that all the wrongdoings he may have done are gonna kind of be forgiven. I just feel like he’s up there, he’s at peace and he’s not fighting no demons no more and he’s in a better place. When I die, I’ll see my man again.”

50’s fans were divided about his Instagram post nearly a week after Irv made the claims. Several trolled the mogul for not even posting originally about DMX’s condition when he was hospitalized, or his passing. Follower @jm_bk2 told him, “Fif ain’t say nothing else bout Dmx but he gon post this,” while  @r.e.v.o. called out Fiddy, commenting, “You ain’t post sh*t about DMXs passing, but you wanna post this sh*t up Fif?” Fan @sharin_cuzzos accused him of wanting attention, writing, “When you looking for any reason to start trending.”

But others thought it best to leave the drug talk out when it came to mourning DMX. Follower @jnotes20xx commented, “Wrong or right is not his place to comment on that man’s death,” and @ton_makla added, “It doesn’t matter how he passed. He is still a legend!!!! of the iconic rapper, actor and songwriter.

Thank you God for Earl Simmons…forever X.”

His ex-wife, Tashera Simmons, also paid tribute to her “best friend” and “mentor”, with whom she shares four kids. “I also thank god for his life, and his peace, and his journey, and his life lessons that [were] passed on, and will live on for generations,” she said. In her caption, Tashera also wrote that she was “crying” and experiencing a “rollercoaster of emotions” as she celebrated her 50th birthday the day after he died. “I couldn’t bring myself to just celebrate and close the last 50yrs of my life with out celebrating the life of one of the most important person in the world to me, my ex-husband,” she wrote.

DMX’s fans are remembering his close friendship with the late singer/actress Aaliyah and paying tribute to the two talents lost too soon

With the sad passing of rapper DMX at the age of 50 on Apr. 9, fans are hoping that he and his good pal, the later singer Aayliah, are now reunited in heaven. The pair teamed up on the 2000 song “Back in One Piece” and starred together in the 2000 action film Romeo Must Die. The then-22-year-old superstar in the making nicknamed “Baby Girl” tragically died in a plane crash in the Bahamas on August 25, 2001. DMX — real name Earl Simmonswas hospitalized on April 2 after suffering a heart attack at his White Plains, NY home. He had been in intensive care for the past week and never recovered.

Aayliah’s mom Diane Haughton shared her sentiments about DMX’s heartbreaking death, releasing a statement that read: “Earl, you had and still have a heart of gold. You and Baby Girl will meet again with all the beautiful people we have lost. Will never forget your kindness. NEVER! Blessings to your family! Eternally!” Other fans tweeted their hopes that the two massive talents are reunited in heaven.

Rest In Heaven DMX 🙏🏽🕊 You were the epitome of graciousness. This world will forever miss you, your voice, your smile, and your presence. You are now at peace ❤️ Say hey to Babygirl for us up there 🙏🏽#Aaliyah #DMX pic.twitter.com/yptqYn7sha

Fan @simply_unathii posted a video from the intro to DMX’s 2001 song “I Miss You” about Aayliah after her passing. “DMX‘s message to Aaliyah in the I Miss You video always made me sad, it saddens me even more now to learn about his passing. Both so young. Both made an impact in the music industry. Hope they’re reunited in heaven #RIPDMX” she wrote.

In the music video, the then 31-year-old rapper/actor began by looking straight into the camera and saying, “Dearest sweet Aayliah. I have trouble accepting the fact that you’re gone. So I won’t. It will be like we worked for awhile without seeing each other. I could understand why God would have wanted you close to him. Because you were truly and angel on Earth. And in my own special way, I love you. I miss you.”

After a week of false rumors about his passing, DMX’s family released a statement on Apr. 9 that fans had been dreading. “We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days,” it began.

“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX,” it continued, as the family added, “We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”

DMX still had so much talent and so much left to give. Fortunately for fans, he was able to show off his long career’s worth of amazing music during a Verzuz battle with Snoop Dogg on July 22, 2020. It will likely be remembered as one of his last great performances and fortunately DMX was able to showcase his decades of contribution as a rapper and songwriter.

DMX’s hospitalization comes after he made headlines over the years for battling substance abuse and going to rehab on more than one occasion. His latest rehab stint happened in 2019 after he completed a 12-month sentence for tax evasion. Before that, he was arrested in Jan. 2018, when he was on probation for the tax evasion case and failed the drug test, which violated his agreement with the court.

The drugs found in his system at the time included opiates, cocaine, and oxycodone. He was also viewed a flight risk at the time when prosecutors referenced a video from the week prior that showed him buying drinks and going on an intense religious rant in a St. Louis airport bar. Drinking was also apparently a violation of his probation.

He also made headlines back in 2016 when he was found unresponsive after complaining of shortness of breath outside of his hotel room at Ramada Yonkers. He apparently collapsed after his entourage searched for an inhaler since he suffers from asthma and when paramedics arrived, he reportedly had no pulse while on the ground in a parking lot. After a minute of CPR, his pulse returned before he went to the hospital to recover, and an eyewitness said he “ingested some sort of powder before lapsing,” and police gave him Narcan, an antidote to narcotic ODs.

It was followed up with his best-selling album, …And Then There Was X in 1999 and he went on to release seven studio albums since his debut. He has also appeared in several films over the years such as Belly, and the reality television series DMX: Soul of a Man in 2006 and published a book of memoirs called E.A.R.L.: The Autobiography of DMX.

Marlo – Last Time Lyrics (feat. No Plug)

[Intro]
Cook that shit up, Quay

[Verse 1: Marlo]
I went from making thirty off them hundreds to a nigga gettin’ money
I stayed standing, f**king bitches and stayin’ on top of riches, run them digits
Stop f**kin’ with them pigeons, I’m in the kitchen, really gettin’ it
I was sixth grade with a bag of midget, tryna flip it
Big bomb tucked, pistol armored up
And now I’m goin’ for nothin’
The J’s steal your dope, I’m tryna shake them folks
12 pressing on the block like whoa
Got a thirty-one in my coat
I ain’t believing this shit, you know the feeling when them peoples hit

[Chorus: Marlo]
I hope God hear me now, then last time
I ain’t prayed to you in a while but this shit tryin’
And a nigga hold they head up with a smile, face a trial
So them young niggas goin’ wild with them sticks, goddamn
The pressure come, that’s bullshit
I pray God hear me now, then last time
I hope God hear me now, then last time
I pray to God hear me now, then last time
I hope God hear me now, then last time
I pray to God hear me now, then last time

[Verse 2: No Plug]
How you want to drive, a water whip a straight drop
f**k the DEA nigga, and the state cops
They banned from the 9, they tried to take me from the block
I’m like an offensive lineman, every day I’m making blocks
In that Porsche Carrera 9-11, I’m gon’ drop the top
When your ho see all these diamonds man, she gon’ suck my cock
I’m like a crackhead in the game, sellin’ dope, I can’t stop
All them diamonds in my chain, man they doin’ the milly rock
I been ballin’ for a long time, you just thug to Pac
If you buy twenty-eight from me you know it gon’ hop
I’m like DMX and Ox, f**k a book I’m sellin’ blocks
I’ma straight drop everything, bitch I’m settin’ up shop

[Chorus: Marlo]
I hope God hear me now, then last time
I ain’t prayed to you in a while but this shit tryin’
And a nigga hold they head up with a smile, face a trial
So them young niggas goin’ wild with them sticks, goddamn
The pressure come, that’s bullshit
I pray God hear me now, then last time
I hope God hear me now, then last time
I pray to God hear me now, then last time
I hope God hear me now, then last time
I pray to God hear me now, then last time

Quadeca – Who Would’ve Thought Lyrics

[Intro]
Yeah

[Verse 1]
I don’t wanna be a ribbon in the sky
Living in disguise
Man I see the venom in the middle of their eyes
Better figure if you’re living or you die
Cause it’s time for you to finish your reply
I’ve been dealing with these guys
Better know that I ain’t black and I rap
So I guess I’m automatically wack, when…
Matter of fact…
I am better than like half of these actors
Outdated like a battery pack
That a Blackberry has on the back of its tab
My rapping has the wrath of attack to send a missile back to Iraq
Then leave a crack on the map
And I put my train of thought right back on the track
All these rapper out of breath
Hear that gasp like a motherf**kin’ asthma attack
Match match match, making flames when I swipe right
And I ain’t talking bout some crap on an app
Man, I’m blowing up with bars, like a TNT
Blowing up: TNT
With Bars: AT&T
I’m the one you may see on a screen
I won’t be passing out like, “Hey! Is he on lean?”
Nah, I ain’t about that
The music that I make is a motherf**kin’ soundtrack
To the dopest life, Big Sean, better bounce back
Everybody trine raise the stakes [Steaks] well they better take it outback
I got a lot on my mind and I’m not gonna stop for a red sign
Talking a lot ’bout the headlines
My death and the time left on the clock’s all I got as my deadline
Don’t open up shop by a set time
I ain’t DMX
I don’t read your texts
I may be the worst. I may be the best
All I know is, I feel obsessed
I feel depressed knowing that this shit is only temporary
Relieve some stress, cause shit is only temporary
Free will but others control what we feel
Evil, less clear than it looks in the cemetery
It’s getting scary, I vocalize
All that I hope inside
Social life over my goals in life
Posts online more important than my golden time
So many goals in mind, I cannot go behind

[Hook]
Who woulda thought that a motherf**ker’d hop on a UK vibe like I’m Drake?
Who woulda thought I’d be spitting all these syllables without making a single mistake?
Who woulda thought, I would be on the top, zooming passed like a car with no brakes?
13 reasons I’m gonna make these rappers kill themselves before they put out a tape
Who woulda, who woulda thought
I’m gonna be bigger than 11x Earth, too hot like I’m motherf**king Jupiter
I’m a new hitter, I’m a new spitter
Coming outside and they saying that I’m great
13 Reasons I’m gonna make these rappers kill themselves before they put out a tape

[Verse 2]
Who woulda, who woulda thought
That Quadeca would have moved to the top
I’ve been doing a lot
See me for the music I make. Not the views or the shoes that I bought
I mean who woulda thought?
That I’d go up up and away
5k to 100k in a month how I play
Motherf**ker think he running the game
See these haters, now they running away cause I’ve come here to stay
Come from the jump in LA
But a boy been coming up in the bay, where they utter my name
I’m like, man… What What do I say
To a friend who think we one in the same
‘Cause I’m done with the games
Saying this is f**king insane
Wanted bars, well no one can complain. Yeah they loving the claims
I got an abundance of pain
When I drop it, it just bust into flames, bust into-
Flames, yeah

[Hook]
Who woulda thought that a motherf**ker’d hop on a UK vibe like I’m Drake?

DMX Meets Same Fate As Meek Mill Back In Jail For Bail Violation

DMX is destined for the same fate as Meek Mill.

The Ruff Ryders rap legend, whose real name is Earl Simmons, is back in jail for violating his bail conditions. TMZ reported that X failed a mandatory drug test after appearing in court this morning in Manhattan. The judge ordered him remanded in custody arguing that he was a flight risk after being tested positive for cocaine, oxycodone, and opiates.

DMX was spotted last week in a St. Louis airport bar boozing out while buying shots for patrons and preaching. Prosecutors played the video in court while arguing that is another clear violation of his probation. The rapper’s attorney, Murray Richman, didn’t have much to say to reporters except about this latest development in Simmons ongoing legal battle. “I’m saddened and disappointed,” Richman said. “We’ll have to deal with it accordingly.”

The legendary rapper pleaded guilty to tax evasion in November last year when he was released on a $500,000 bond. Part of the conditions for his bail was mandatory rehab which he completed but seems he is right back to square one where drugs aare concerned. DMX will remain behind bars until his sentencing for his tax evasion case on March 29th. He is facing years in prison for concealing millions of dollars in a scheme dated back decades, according to the New York prosecutor.

Last year November, Meek Mill was sentenced to 2-4 years in prison for violating his probation by popping wheelies in the streets of New York and getting arrested in St. Louis. Both charges were eventually dismissed, but the judge still sent him to prison, sparking a nationwide uproar from fans of the rapper and his celebrity peers including JAY-Z and Rev Al Sharpton. Unlike Meek Mill, DMX has a serious case on his hand and is likely to go away for a while. His plea deal may also play a part in his sentence.

DMX Released From Rehab Temporarily For His Fans

DMX is out rehab, at least for a little bit.

The rap legend is getting a temporary reprieve from rehab to go on tour. He has an upcoming concert in Albany on Friday where fans were worried that he might not show, but now we know he will be there for sure, TMZ reported. On Saturday, following the performance, X will be heading straight back to rehab which is mandatory. The former Ruff Ryders MC was also permitted to perform at a gig in New York City on Thursday night. After all he need to keep the money flowing in to pay for rehab and his pending tax debt.

DMX attorney, Murray Richman, says the rapper will required to travel for his concerts from time to time and will have a rehab counselor on the journey with him at all times. He has been granted permission to travel almost a dozen times already and has to go through a rigorous drug testing program while on tour. The rapper pays for the counselor’s travel expense and food.

DMX says he has been sober ever since rehab and it looks like rehab is being good to him because he has put on a little weight.

DMX Is Sober and Packed On A Lot Of Weight Since Rehab

DMX is not only sober, he has packed on a ton of weight since going to rehab and it’s pretty evident in the video clip below.

The legendary rapper checked into rehab in August after copping a deal with to avoid house arrest. Seems it was the best thing that ever happened to him because not only is he sober, but he gained over 40 pounds according to sources. A TMZ photographer caught up with the DMX today while going to court and asked him about his weight gain and the status of his tax evasion case.

The photographer asked him if its true that he put on 40 lbs and how much does he weigh now. “I don’t know. you have a scale?” X responded jokingly. He was later asked what kind of diet he was on and he said he eats captain crunch cereal. The entire exchange with the paparazzo was hilarious, but it’s X’s health and image that everyone is zooming in on. Before going into rehab, he looked frail and overall not in his best shape. But now he looks a lot more energetic and upbeat. So you can conclude that rehab has been good to him and he should probably do more rehab to ensure that he stays off drugs.

DMX is reportedly clean and sober and has been that way for weeks now, according to sources close to the rapper. He also got a big break in court recently when a judge gave him the green light to travel this fall to other states for touring so he can make some money. There are some reports that he is having some financial troubles and is next to broke because he has been unable to leave the state of New York for touring or any other reasons. He also has child support cases to deal with in court which also put some strain on his finances.

DMX Cops Deal On House Arrest But Must Enter Drug Rehab

DMX desperately want to be able to travel and perform on gigs so he cop a deal to be free of house arrest but in exchange, he will have to enter a drug rehabilitation program.

The rap icon legal troubles are still far from over since he is facing multiple charges for tax evasion. He was placed under house arrest earlier this month after failing at least four drug tests, hence all the more reasons for drug rehab. TMZ reported that a judge has signed off on an inpatient treatment program for DMX’s substance abuse problems.

X will still need permission to travel outside of the state of New York, but if the treatment facility is outside of the state then he can travel there freely. The rapper’s lawyer, Murray Richman, agrees with the judge saying that DMX drug addiction has become impossible to manage and he needs help. This will not be the first time the former Ruff Ryder emcee is getting treatment for substance abuse, but we all sure it will be the last. In April of this year, the rapper checked himself into rehab following a mysterious medical problem. Sources say he had overdosed on drug and collapse. Seems that rehab didn’t help him back then because just this month he failed four drug test in one day where drugs such as marijuana and cocaine were found in his system.

DMX has pleaded not guilty to the tax charges and if convicted he could serve some time in prison. X is reportedly working on a new album but there is no word yet on the release date or the title. Earlier this year Swizz Beatz confirmed that he has been in the studio with the legendary rapper working on a new project. But it seems his drug addiction problems may have played a role in the delay of the project.

REMY MA – Another One lyrics

Heard you callin’ everyone
Now call ’em back, ’cause I got another one
Heard you was kiddin’, sayin’ I ain’t havin’ none
But that’s okay baby, ’cause now you my son
They like, “Yo, Rem go in again”
My flow cold, her ink froze in the pen
You gotta go, you gotta go, lil hoe
I kick a dead horse till it don’t move
Don’t come around me, now I got the crown, see
I beat you with punches in 48, you Ronda Rousey
The wigs and nose, you a whole clown, B
I better not ever hear you say anything about me
I came from behind bars like a bottle girl
No candy bars, I raise the bar, I’m like a bodybuild
All blue Maserati, sawed-off lil shottie
Put blood in your head, leave your whole damn head red, Lil Yachty
Oh, and if you doubt that, you can catch me outside, bitch, how bout that?
When it’s dark and hell is hot, I’ll DM your ex
Sittin’ here now like, “Who I’ma DM next?”
I handle these bars like a BMX, Grrr
Get at me dog, DMX
And I’m waitin’ for a bitch to talk outta her neck
‘Cause we got pictures, we got videos, and we got texts

Already took a L, now you got another one
I secure the bag, now I got another one
I caught the W, now I got another one
Yo, what’s that shit you be sayin’, Khaled?
(Another one)
Already took a L, now you got another one
I secure the bag, now I got another one
I caught the W, now I got another one
Yo, what’s that shit you be sayin’, Khaled?

SonReal – No Warm Up

Locked down like Ye for three summers
Locked down like DMX when he peel out

Cause that 12-year old was me when I was looking for my dad like
Chicka-bow-wow, chicka-bow-wow, run it
So if you see me walking, come and say "What’s up" to Sonny like
Run it, run it, run it

I dedicate this song right here to anybody yelling "Free yo mind"
