Sub-fence policy. Why building border walls is a sign of powerlessness?

The Finnish press announced its intention to build a fence on the border between Finland and Russia. According to Finnish journalists, the initiative comes from the Border Guard Service of the Republic of Finland. The head of this department, Lieutenant General Pasi Kostamovaara, said that the fence could be ready in two or three years and will last at least 50 years.

In general, purely technically, this is not difficult, since the border service proposes to fence off from 1/10 to 1/5 of the entire 1300-kilometer border between Russia and Finland. It is very possible to build from 130 to 260 km of fence in two or three years. Another thing — why? What will it give in the  perspective? And about what does the desire to fence off with a wall say?

Who is the first, Rome or China?

Pasi Kostamovaara explains the intention to build a fence with the prospect of a powerful migration flow to Finland, which without such a fence will be difficult, if not completely impossible to control. And he is, as they say, in trend — over the past 15 years, building fences at the border has become something of a national sport. The wall between the USA and Mexico, the walls between Greece and Turkey, Bulgaria and Turkey, Austria and Slovenia, Hungary and Serbia… All of them, from a purely formal point of view, are designed precisely to regulate migration flows. But if we consider the problem of walls and fences in historical perspective, then you can understand that the official declarations are something else.

In itself, the idea of u200bu200bto fence off with a fence falls into the category of “well-forgotten old”. In the memory of any person who is more or less familiar with history, a hook image of the Great Wall of China immediately appears, the construction of which began in III c. BC BC. e. At the other end of Eurasia, at the beginning of our era, construction begins on a smaller scale, but also impressive — the Romans hastily organize the German Limes, that is, a fortified border. Later it will be supplemented by the Danube Limes, the Walls of Adrian and  Antonin, the Trajan Walls, the Arabian and African Limes…

A famous quote from Rudyard Kipling«West is West, East is East, they never meet  in this case it misfires. And the West in the face of the Roman Empire, and the East in the face of the empire Qinvery much agreed. The point of their ideological contact was extremely important. Both empires saw themselves as a civilization that resisted the chaos and barbarism of the surrounding world. Here, behind a wall or limestone, order, law, law and the state triumph. Out there in the outside world — don understand that. Anarchy, lack of rights and lawlessness, hordes of bandits, murderers and rapists, it is possible that cannibals come across, and also people with dog heads. In a word, the wall has turned from a purely functional border structure into a symbol. A symbol that separates civilization from barbarism and horror. Separator of the “pure” from "unclean".

Go into deep defense

In addition, the wall fixed one more not so obvious, but interesting thing. Specifically — impotence of “civilization” before the “barbarians”. Wall — this means that the offensive has been stopped and that now we need to think no longer of "carrying our values" into the outside world, but about deep defense.

What what this led to, more or less everyone imagines. The famous Great Wall of China, or as the Chinese themselves called it, “an unbending powerful force”, was broken through by the troops of Genghis Khanin 1211  China has been conquered. Something similar happened with Roman limes — in early 5th c. n. e. it was broken through at once in several places, and after a while the “barbarians” done away with the Roman Empire.

That is from the point of pure functionality walls and fences work not to very well and sooner or later become simply useless. But as long as they exist, the world is divided physically and symbolically. And & nbsp; the one who builds the wall, respectively, signs in & nbsp; his own impotence in front of a certain problem. Perhaps this and for the currentPresident of the United States, Joe Biden stopped funding further construction and improvement of the fence wall on the border Mexico — this is a kind of symbolic declaration of intent to solve the problem, and not isolate itself from   it.

But this is almost an isolated case. In & nbsp; a couple of & nbsp; it can be put only the destruction of the Berlin Wall in & nbsp; 1989 & nbsp; It was a grand symbolic gesture. A gesture of goodwill, designed to demonstrate the desire of the USSR to solve problems together with the conditional collective West. The most interesting thing is that it all started for health. In 1990, US Secretary of State James Baker and German Chancellor Helmut Kohl assured Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachevin the fact that the unification of Germany will not lead to the expansion of NATO to the east. But what happened next is known to everyone — explosive expansion of NATO in precisely this direction.

It is symbolic that each of countries admitted to this military-political union considered it their duty to declare the construction of a fence on the border with Russia, or at least such an intention. Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland… The issue of Finland's joining NATO has not yet been fully determined, but the Finns have already announced the fence. Symbolically, the gesture is read immediately — all these states, with their fences, are shouting, signing loyalty to their overlords: “We are our own!” We with you, and not with Russian barbarians — you see, they even built a fence!»

In fact they sign the fact that they fully agree with the role imposed on them. This very role is very, very unenviable. Be a limitrope. Actually, the word itself goes back to the times of the Roman Empire. Limitrophes were then called areas that were obliged to maintain special units of imperial troops stationed on their territories. After the First World War, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland and Poland received this disparaging nickname from their owners — “Great Entente”. Now, hastily erecting fences on the border with Russia, these states are again trying on their unenviable infamous role — be a kind of sub-fence outskirts.

Saudi prince strikes back at Joe Biden

Mohammed bin Salman had something to say to the US President in response to the claims

The heir to the throne of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, hit back at Biden after the US president spoke out against the crown prince over assassination of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, hit back at Joe Biden after the US president spoke out against him over the 2018 assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi during a meeting between the two leaders on Friday.

At the meeting, Mohammed bin Salman, also known as MBS, denied responsibility for the killing of Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, according to CNN. According to the source, Biden indicated that he disagreed with MBS's arguments based on US intelligence assessments.

In response to Biden's mention of Khashoggi, the Saudi prince cited the sexual and physical abuse of detainees in Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison by US military personnel and the May killing of Palestinian American journalist Shirin Abu Akla in the occupied West Bank as incidents that reflected badly on USA. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan told reporters on Saturday.

“The crown prince has responded quite clearly to President Biden's remarks about Khashoggi,” said Faisal bin Farhan. – These are problems, mistakes that happen in any country, including the USA. The Crown Prince pointed out that the United States made its own mistakes and took the necessary actions to bring those responsible to justice and correct those mistakes, just as the kingdom did.”

Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir echoed the sentiment in an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer shortly after the meeting ended.

“We investigated, punished and made sure it didn't happen again,” he said. Jubeir, answering a question about Khashoggi's murder. “That's what countries do. This is what the US did when the Abu Ghraib mistake was made.”

Abu Ghraib prison was the center for the detention of captured Iraqis by the US Army from the beginning of the US aggression in Iraq in 2003 until the prison was closed in 2006 due to mistreatment of Iraqi prisoners by US military personnel. Eleven American soldiers were convicted of crimes related to the scandal.

Shirin Abu Akle, a well-known Al Jazeera journalist named in MBS's rebuke to Biden, was mortally wounded during an Israeli military raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin. Abu Akle has become a household name in the Arab world as she has written for decades about the suffering of Palestinians under Israeli occupation. Video footage obtained by CNN, corroborated by testimony from eight witnesses, a medical examiner and an explosives expert, suggests that Abu Akle, who was wearing a hard hat and a blue safety vest marked “Press” at the time of the murder, was shot dead as a result of targeted action by Israeli forces.

On Friday in the West Bank, Biden said the US was pushing for a “full and transparent account” of the journalist's murder. Biden called Abu Akle's death a “huge loss” as he stood next to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem.

But Palestinian officials and members of Abu Akle's family criticized the US investigation and urged the US to do more to involve Israel held accountable for the killing.

In a quickly prepared speech following Biden's bilateral talks with Mohammed bin Salman, the US president said he raised the issue of Khashoggi's murder early in the meeting.

“Regarding the killing of Khashoggi, I brought it up at the beginning of the meeting, making it clear that I thought about it at the time and what I think about it now,” Biden told reporters. – I was straightforward in discussing this. I have made my point crystal clear.”

According to Prince Faisal bin Farhan, there was also a broader discussion about values. “The Crown Prince pointed out to President Biden that respect for human rights is a core value for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based on our Islamic beliefs and our Arab heritage. And what is absolutely important is that values are disseminated through dialogue. Trying to impose your values on others will not be effective. It will give you a negative reaction… The right way to try to put forward your values is to show the world that you stick to those values first, that you respect your own values.”

“At the end of the day, you can’t impose your values by force… The Crown Prince was very clear with President Biden and we have our own values and they will never be 100% in line with US values because we are very, very proud of our our own traditions, our own values, our own faith,” Faisal bin Farhan added.

But, according to many officials, the human rights debate appears to be overshadowed by broader talk about energy security, regional stability, trade and investment. Iran's nuclear ambitions and the war in Yemen are also seen as key elements in the discussions between Washington and Riyadh.

Senior Biden administration officials have had to defend the US president's decision to meet with MBS face-to-face despite fierce criticism, saying that it would be “apostasy if he didn't want to sit down and discuss human rights issues with foreign leaders around the world.”

As CNN notes, Biden came to Jeddah seeking a solution to one of his main political problems, the United United States – exorbitant fuel prices – as diplomacy with Saudi Arabia in the Middle East was seen as one of the few ways that prices could be lowered, hitting millions of Americans.

But White House officials predicted the president would not return to Washington with a clear increase in oil production. It is expected that oil production may increase in the coming months, which will be done in the context of the increase in production levels in the OPEC + cartel, outlined at its August meeting.

Revealed the true reason for the trip of Joe Biden to Saudi Arabia

U.S. President Fails to Convince Riyadh to Increase Global Oil Supplies

U.S. President Joe Biden insists his trip to Saudi Arabia is for everything from increased security in the region and ending with the establishment of bilateral relations. However, the main task of the American leader is still to get as much oil from the Saudis as possible. At the same time, Politico journalists are confident that the head of the White House, as part of his Middle East tour, is unlikely to be able to persuade the kingdom to increase energy supplies to the world market.

Photo: AP

Even the toughest pressure from the American leader, apparently, would not force Riyadh to pump more barrels of oil into world markets, writes Politico. It is not clear whether Saudi Arabia, which has one of the largest oil reserves in the world, is capable of increasing it quickly enough to normalize the situation in the sector.

Even if the US president's pressure somehow worked, experts believe it could unbalance the markets, the situation in which has begun to gradually improve in recent days. Moreover, experts warn that the American “economic pain” associated, among other things, with a significant increase in gasoline prices, will also not go away.

Therefore, the Biden administration promises that the attention of the American leader during a trip to Saudi Arabia will be focused on something more than just energy.

“We look forward to advancing our interests on a wide range of issues, from terrorism to climate change to Iran,” an unnamed senior U.S. official told Politico. “This is precisely why the president’s tour was organized.”

At the same time, the source of the publication nevertheless admitted that the issue of oil will inevitably have to be raised both during Biden’s discussions with the government of Saudi Arabia, and during his meeting with representatives of the five countries of the Persian Gulf, which will be held on Sunday, July 16. Especially given the fact that global energy markets are in turmoil after the launch of Russia's special operation in Ukraine.

“We definitely look forward to taking the time to discuss energy security issues with the Gulf Cooperation Council and with representatives of Saudi Arabia,” the official added.

For decades, one of the key topics of discussion between Washington and Riyadh has been inextricably linked to oil supplies. Former US President Donald Trump, for example, criticized OPEC, while another former US leader, George W. Bush, personally urged the Saudis to increase oil production.

Over the weekend, Biden even published an article in the Washington Post in which he as if he was trying to justify his upcoming trip to the Arabian kingdom in front of critics. After all, quite recently, the head of the White House vowed to turn Saudi Arabia into a “rogue state” for human rights violations there.

It is noteworthy that Biden did not mention the issue of energy in his opinion column. He focused on other things, in particular, on the desire to “strengthen the strategic partnership” in the Middle East.

If the US president focused on trying to coax the kingdom to increase oil production or ease OPEC policy, Saudi Arabia would likely be unwilling or unable to comply with this request, analysts and diplomats say. The best outcome of the talks could be a relatively modest agreement that Riyadh will invest more in its production or expand the capacity of the Motiva Enterprises refinery in Texas, owned by the kingdom's state-owned company. So what can Americans expect from Biden's trip then?

“Not much,” said David Golvin, head of the Center for Global Energy and former State Department energy adviser. “For diplomatic reasons, I don't expect Biden to come out of there with a promise to increase oil production. For the United States, such a request would be too rude, and for Saudi Arabia, too straightforward.”

The expert believes that Joe Biden needs such a visit in order to fulfill his part of the actual agreement on OPEC+. In June, the American president asked the organization to increase oil production earlier than planned, and she silently did it.

The members of the oil producing group have announced that their collective oil production will increase by 648,000 barrels per day in July. Although earlier they planned to raise this figure by 400,000 barrels and only in August. However, OPEC has not fully fulfilled its promise so far. And there is speculation that Saudi Arabia and OPEC as a whole do not have the capacity to do so.

Analysts say that a gradual decline in oil prices could make further discussions about its production “superfluous”. The base oil price in the US has exceeded $120 a barrel several times this year. And as of Tuesday, July 12, it has fallen to $96 thanks to increased domestic production, and also due to market awareness that Russian oil is being shipped in large volumes to China and India. Plus, prices have tumbled out of fear that a recession will cut energy demand in the coming months.

One idea Biden might try to push is for Saudi Arabia and the rest of OPEC to exclude Russia from the expanded partnership “OPEC +”. Russia has been included in this group since 2016. However, domestic unification politics will likely outweigh any requests Biden might make regarding Moscow.

What did the Uber investigation reveal?

An international group of journalists conducted an investigation based on 124,000 confidential documents of Uber executives, various officials and world leaders in almost 30 countries around the world.

After studying the documentation, it became known that Uber used stealth technology to thwart anti-company regulatory and law enforcement efforts. The taxi service has also engaged lobbyists to woo prominent world leaders in order to influence legislation and avoid paying taxes.

Emails and miscellaneous reports provided to The Guardian by former chief Uber lobbyist Mark McGann. He also shared material with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and dozens of news organizations, including The Washington Post.

The results of the investigation formed the basis of Uber Files and were published on July 10. The documents examined relate to the period when the head of Uber was Travis Kalanick, who left the post in 2017.

What is known about the results of the investigation?

According to information obtained by reporters, Uber representatives met with politicians and asked for various favors, including “to stop investigations and change the policy regarding workers' rights.” Documents confirm that the company ignored taxi laws and violated the rights of workers.

Uber also used a kill switch to block the collection of evidence. The system created blocked access to the company's IT systems and prevented law enforcement officers from collecting evidence and clues during raids in at least six countries.

Documents available to journalists indicate that lobbyists, including former aides to President Barack Obama, have been pushing for government officials to drop investigations, rewrite labor and taxi laws, and relax driver screening.

In addition, the consortium used the threat of violence against Uber drivers in France by resentful taxi drivers as a way to garner public support. In one email, Uber executives warned that sending drivers to protest in France could lead to violence from angry taxi drivers.

The files also say Uber is funneling profits through Bermuda. The company cut millions of dollars in tax payments by hiding its profits in offshore and other tax havens, while helping the authorities collect taxes from their drivers.

What is known about Macron's lobbying for Uber?

Reporters found that Makronhad bailed out Uber after police suspended its operations in Marseille in 2015. The journalists also had personal correspondence between Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick and Macron. Macron, then economy minister, was allied with expanding the American company's business, according to The Guardian. In 2017, when he became president, he advocated an expansion of Uber, which was opposed by local taxi drivers.

Parliamentary faction of the party “Unconquered France” intends to advocate the creation of an investigative commission to study the connections of the country's President Emmanuel Macron with the Uber taxi ordering service.

The French newspaper Le Monde concluded that Macron, by entering into a secret agreement with the company, violated the established taxi rules. According to Communist Party leader Fabien Roussel, Macron was actually helping corrupt businesses instead of protecting French citizens. Other French politicians are of a similar opinion, who say that “France is not run by the president, but by the lobby.”

The documents also say that Uber representatives met not only with Macron, but also with Joe Biden when he served as Vice President of the United States (from 2009 to 2017), as well as with former advisers to Barack Obama, who served as President of the United States from 2009 to 2017.

The real purpose of Joe Biden’s trip to the Middle East has been revealed

U.S. President seeks new allies against Russia

Joe Biden will make his first Middle East tour as President of the United States July 13-16, visiting Israel, the Palestinian-controlled West Bank Jordan River, and then go to Saudi Arabia. During the visit, the American leader intends to restore relations between Riyadh and Washington and reduce oil prices. It is believed that the landmark visit of the head of state will play into the hands of the newly minted Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid.

Photo: AP

Already this week, Joe Biden will make his first official visit to the Middle East as President of the United States. The US president will begin his landmark tour with a visit to Israel and, in particular, a meeting with the country's recently-became prime minister, Yair Lapid. Then the American leader is going to visit the West Bank of the Jordan River to hold talks with the head of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas.

Over the weekend, the Israeli prime minister moved with his wife to Jerusalem and settled in a villa on Balfour Street, located not far from the official residence of the head of government. The house where the Lapid couple temporarily settled is usually inhabited by the Prime Minister's bodyguards. However, such an unusual place of residence was not chosen by the politician by chance.

The Prime Minister's official residence is currently under renovation. Yair Lapid did not want to repeat the story of his predecessor Naftali Bennet and turn his private apartment in Ramat Aviv (a district in Tel Aviv) into a spare residence. And the point is not at all in Lapid's irresistible desire to live and work in Jerusalem.

Any conversion of housing into a kind of prime minister's residence – event is expensive. Opposition representatives cannot forget the story of the 50 million shekels allegedly costing the state to renovate Naftali Bennett's private house in Ra'anana.

However, a more significant motive in this regard is the desire of Yair Lapid to fix in the minds of citizens as quickly and firmly as possible the fact that he is the head of the Israeli government.

To do something real for the country in the days remaining before the elections in Lapid is unlikely to succeed in Israel for four months. Therefore, now the new prime minister can only focus his attention on loud statements and meetings with world leaders.

And in this regard, Biden's Middle East tour came in handy. Of course, there is a chance that the US President's visit will not bring the desired results. But even without obvious results, the very meeting with the American leader could form the basis of Lapid's election campaign.

The fact that Biden largely continued the extremely pro-Israeli policy of his predecessor Donald Trump, who recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, moved the American embassy there and at the same time closed the country’s consulate that worked with the Palestinians, also plays into the hands of the new prime minister. It was under Trump that the financial aid to Palestine was actually nullified. In addition, in August 2020, Washington mediated the “Abraham Accords” between Israel, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates to normalize relations, which later included Sudan and Morocco.

Although Trump did not rule out the creation of a Palestinian state, his policies still seriously undermined this possibility. For example, his administration effectively rejected a decade of United States policy by pointing out that Israeli settlements in the West Bank did not violate international law.

For their part, Biden and his team restored most of the funding for the Palestinians and a direct diplomatic channel to communicate with them. At the same time, the current head of state did not reopen the consulate, did not return the American embassy to Tel Aviv, did not cancel the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital, and did not cancel the settlement decision (although the Biden administration spoke out against the expansion of Jewish settlements).

The White House also sees Israel as a critical ally in the Middle East, where there are currently thousands of US troops facing threats from Iran and Islamist extremist organizations. Developing cooperation between the Israelis and the US Arab partners is an obvious way to reduce these threats.

However, some Western leaders and even a number of current U.S. officials have condemned the Biden administration's overzealous curtsy towards Israel, whose actions against the Palestinians are now called “crimes of apartheid” by leading human rights groups, Politico reports. In addition, Israel's reluctance to openly ally with the “collective West” against Russia, after the start of a special operation against Ukraine, also attracted the special attention of Western states.

Already on July 15, Biden will travel to Saudi Arabia. He has already boasted that he will be the first American leader to fly directly from Tel Aviv to the Saudi city of Jeddah, where the Gulf Cooperation Council is expected to meet.

Relations between Washington and Riyadh reached a historic low after the brutal murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018 (which is blamed on the kingdom's intelligence agencies) and the war in Yemen. However, the crisis in the world oil markets is pushing the American leader to reset relations with Saudi Arabia, which he once threatened to turn into a “rogue state”.

Biden promised to reconsider relations with Riyadh shortly before joining to the presidency of the United States. Ahead of his Middle East tour, the American leader even wrote in an op-ed for the American newspaper The Washington Post that “from the very beginning, his goal was to reorient, but not sever, relations with the Gulf state, which has been a strategic partner of the United States for 80 years.”

In addition, Biden stressed that his meeting with the leaders of Saudi Arabia is crucial, including for advancing American efforts to counter Russia and oust China.

“I know that many do not agree with my decision to go to Saudi Arabia,” the president said. – My job as president is to keep our country strong and secure.

To accomplish these tasks, Biden said, the United States needs to engage directly with the states that can influence this Exodus. And one of these countries – just Saudi Arabia.

Experts are confident that this visit will determine whether Biden can make progress on the oil issue and the establishment of regional relations. The American leader needs at least minimal success to justify his turn on Saudi Arabia to his critics, including from the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

“No sex until we get our rights back!” Pro-Abortion in the US

On June 24, the US Supreme Court struck down the constitutional right to abortion. Now decisions about their legality must be made at the state level. In many of them, abortion will be prohibited. This decision provoked mass protests in the United States. It has gotten to the point where feminists are urging women to give up sex until the decision is reconsidered. The Supreme Court, meanwhile, has already thought about revising the license for same-sex marriages.

Why did the court abolish the right to abortion? ;                          ;

The decision of the US Supreme Court cannot be called sensational. Almost 2 months ago, Politico published a draft of the judges' decision, which outlined the June 24 decision. The publication of the draft sparked massive protests against Supreme Court judges across the country, which are now ongoing.

The right to abortion — is one of those politically significant discussions in the United States between conservatives and liberals that continues without small for several decades. In 1973, the US Supreme Court during the consideration of the case “Roe v. Wade” recognized abortion as a fundamental right of US citizens.

A new consideration for the right to abortion began after Texas passed the “Heartbeat Law” — Abortion is prohibited from the moment the fetus has a heartbeat (about the sixth week after conception). This law was challenged at the federal level, and the proceedings reached the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court eventually reversed its own 1973 decision.

Then the judges decided that the right to abortion is guaranteed by the constitutional right to privacy. The new decision states that the constitution does not mention or protect the right to abortion. In many states, abortion will now be banned. In 7 states, legislation from 1973 retains abortion bans that were blocked by a Supreme Court decision. Now these restrictions will not be. Another 13 states passed abortion bans in case Roe v. Wade was overturned. In Louisiana, South Dakota, Kentucky, and Missouri, the bans are already in place.

According to the American Guttmacher Institute, 26 states “surely or probably” prohibit abortion.

How did the US react to the decision?

The decision of the Supreme Court provoked a celebration among conservatives and massive protests among liberals.

Former US President Donald Trump called the event “the great victory of life.” His former Vice President Mike Pencecalled on all states to ban abortion.

In turn, US President Joe Biden opposed the decision. He called it “a tragic mistake that takes the country back 150 years.” He pledged that his administration would do everything possible to protect women's right to travel to states where abortion is legal and to ensure that they have access to abortion pills and contraceptives. Some large American companies have announced that they will pay their employees to travel to other states for abortions if they work in places where abortion is prohibited. These include Starbucks, Tesla, Airbnb, Netflix, JPMorgan Chase and Reddit.

Pro-abortion activists are taking initiatives of varying degrees of madness. For example, they propose to arrange a nationwide sex strike, writes Breitbart. “No sex with sperm donors until we get our rights back!”, — it quotes the slogans of one of the radical feminists.

A 24-year-old woman protesting the New York Supreme Court decision told the New York Post that she would not have sex with men unless they wanted a vasectomy. “If you're a man who doesn't want to have a vasectomy, even if it's reversible, and you don't take to the streets fighting for my rights, you don't deserve to have sex with me,” she said, — .

< p>The police were forced to increase security measures near the homes of Supreme Court judges in early May, when a draft decision leaked into the public space. And, it seems, not in vain. At least one person was detained because of the preparation of an assassination attempt on one of the conservative judges. The 26-year-old California resident said he went for it because he was outraged by the published decision.

What can the Supreme Court's decision lead to?

The issue of the right to abortion threatens to become the most important issue in the forthcoming congressional elections this fall. Bidencalled on Congress to remedy the situation by recognizing the right to abortion as a federal right. He called this topic the key one for the autumn elections.

Experts believe that abortion may become a key card for the Democrats in the upcoming elections. The Biden administration has so far suffered a complete collapse in terms of the economy. If the presidential election took place right now, Biden would have lost to Donald Trump with a score of 44% to 49%, according to federal polls. However, more than 85% of Americans support the right to have an abortion under certain circumstances. 61% of Americans believe abortion rights should remain legal in their current form, Pew Research poll says.

More importantly, Biden, after the congressional elections, may begin to reform the institution of the Supreme Court. He and other Democrats are not satisfied that now the Supreme Court, in which judges hold office for life, is now actually under the control of conservatives — 6 out of 9 members of the court adhere to conservative views. This was made possible by the fact that Trump replaced three — judges during his presidency, two elderly Conservative judges who voluntarily retired, and one liberal judge who passed away.

Biden wants to expand the composition of the court to 13 people, putting on 4 new seats of their candidates. This would once again give the Liberals an advantage in court. However, he can pull off such a truly tectonic reform (the number of members of the Supreme Court has not changed even once in the entire history of its existence) only with the full support of Congress.

For Democrats, this approach may be the only solution, because the Supreme Court, apparently, has set its sights on overturning its other liberal decisions. As Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas said in a written opinion, the Court now “should review other similar decisions that protect Americans' rights to contraception, same-sex relationships, and same-sex marriage.”

Before Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, stepped onto the music scene and was just starting out, she met Luc Carl at a New York City bar in 2005 and they began dating. Not too much is known about their relationship since it happened before she was in the mega spotlight, but they dated on and off over six years and by 2008, it seemed they had called it quits.

In 2010, the lovebirds rekindled their flame but by 2011, they went their separate ways once again. Gaga admitted she had a love for Luc unlike any other in a Rolling Stone interview. “I’ve really never loved anyone like I loved him. Or like I love him,” she said.

Matthew Williams

In 2008, when Gaga released her debut studio album, The Fame, she was linked to Los Angeles designer Matthew “Dada” Williams. He was seen riding in a car with her on her way to the Grammy Awards that year and they were both dressed to impress. Before the year ended, the couple stopped dating and Gaga later spoke out about their connection in an interview with the Evening Standard in 2010.

“Dada is quite brilliant and we were crazy lovers, but I stopped it when we discovered what a strong creative connection we had,” she told the outlet. In addition to being her partner at one time, Matthew actually served as the creative director of Haus of Gaga from 2008 until 2010.

Gaga actually met Taylor Kinney on the set of her music video for the song, “Yoü and I,” which was written about her relationship with Luc, in 2011. He was cast as her love interest and became just that behind the camera as well. During an interview on Watch What Happens Live, Gaga told host Andy Cohen about the magical moment they first worked together.

“We had a good time,” she explained. “I think there was chemistry. We were shooting until 4 or 5 in the morning or something like that. We exchanged information. A few weeks went by and we kept in touch, and then that’s that.”

After years of having a public romance, in Feb. 2015, Taylor proposed to Gaga and she said yes. Their last public appearance together was in March 2016 and by July of that year, they broke up. “Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break,” Gaga wrote in a statement at the time. “We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared. Please root us on. We’re just like everybody else and we really love each other.”

In Jan. 2017, Gaga was spotted with Christian Carino for the first time. They were hanging out at a Kings of Leon concert and a month later, he was seen with her at the Super Bowl in Houston, TX. They continued to date throughout the rest of 2017 and into 2018, and after engagement rumors swirled, the lovebirds confirmed them in Oct. 2018. In Jan. 2019, they made their last public appearance together and Gaga seemed to be single once again. During this time, she denied rumors that she was dating her A Star Is Born co-star Bradley Cooper.

Dan Horton

Gaga hinted that she may be dating sound engineer Dan Horton in July 2019 when she shared a photo of a bouquet of flowers and her smelling one in the background and tagged him in it. “Italians cook with love,” she captioned the snapshot along with a red heart emoji. By Oct. 2019, however, Gaga referred to herself as “single.”

Gaga and entrepreneur Michael Polansky were first seen together in Miami, FL and in Jan. 2020, she confirmed their romance with a cozy photo of the two of them on Instagram. They got very close throughout the first half of 2020, including when they quarantined due to the COVID pandemic and a year after they went Instagram official, they showed up to Joe Biden‘s Inauguration in Washington D.C. together.

Shortly after they started dating, a source told us that the talented musician is “serious about” Michael and their future together. “She’s serious about him, this is much more than a fling,” a friend of the singer EXCLUSIVELY shared with HollywoodLife. “She’s already introduced him to her family and they really like him, they approve. She met him through mutual friends and there was an instant attraction between them. It’s more than just physical though, she’s very attracted to his mind, he’s brilliant. He went to Harvard, which is impressive, but what’s even more impressive is that he’s devoted his whole career to philanthropy. That is such a passion of hers, so they’re really aligned there. It’s a great match on many levels.”

As of 2022, Gaga and Michael still appear to be going strong.

The comedian channeled the subject of Netflix’ ‘Inventing Anna,’ who was convicted of grand larceny after she defrauded banks, hotels and friends while posing as a wealthy heiress.

Chloe Fineman has become known for her incredible impersonations, perfectly nailing the voices of such stars as Britney Spears, Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep. In a hilarious sketch for the lastest episode of Saturday Night Live, the star proves her chops once again as she took on the odd and ever-changing accent used by actress Julia Garner in portraying Anna Delvey in Netflix’ buzzy drama Inventing Anna.

While chilling in her dressing room at the beginning of the sketch, Chloe suddenly realizes Delvey — who was convicted of grand larceny in 2019 after she defrauded banks, hotels and friends while posing as a wealthy heiress — got what she wanted by simply demanding it in her awkward accent. The notion inspires Chloe to try Delvey’s approach, as she begins barking orders to her fellow cast members while dressed up as the criminal and using a wild voice.

After scolding Andrew Dismukes for having potato chips as snacks instead of sushi from Nobu, Chloe goes on to take a couch from Kyle Mooney, the Joe Biden impersonation from newcomer James Austin Johnson and the Weekend Update anchor job from Michael Che, who celebrates the move and takes off for a vacation. Chloe eventually can’t keep up with all her lies or rising debt, much like Delvey in the series, and is confronted by Kate McKinnon.

“Chloe, I can’t help but notice you’ve been Delvey-ing everyone today,” Kate said to the struggling imposter. “Chloe, you don’t have to do this. The hair, the glasses, the Russian accent that’s also German. You just got to be confident. There’s a real Delvey inside you. It has been all along.”

After Chloe pulls herself together, realizes the mistakes she’s made, and apologizes, she takes off the glasses and exits down the hall. Kate promptly picks up the glasses and puts them on to reveal she is also a version of the insistent, fake heiress. “There can only be one Delvey around here,” Kate fiendishly says into the camera.

SNL didn’t shy away from the political this episode, putting their signature skewer on the political moment with Kate Mckinnon returning as Laura Ingraham.

When Saturday Night Live finally returned from hiatus on Feb. 26, it returned to a world in turmoil. Faced with a shocking and swiftly escalating invasion of Ukraine by Russia, SNL chose a somber and moving cold open highlighting the Ukrainian Chorus Dumka of New York. But this week, with Joe Biden‘s State Of The Union address behind us and new updates overseas, SNL brought their signature satire to the political moment…..and met the mark with a hilarious cold open.

SNL came in hot from the beginning, starting the night off with a cold open featuring Kate McKinnon‘s infamous Laura Ingraham impression, which previously caused the right-wing pundit to call her out. and Alex Moffat as Tucker Carlson, where the pair skewer the right-wing commentators’ support of Russia during the Ukraine invasion. The hilarious opening sketch was even complete with Cecily Strong as Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle singing a rendition of “Shallow” that reveals her real desires to take over Ukraine.

But SNL wasn’t done yet, especially when it came to musical comedy. James Austin Johnson was back with his Donald Trump impression, and this time he had an emotional song dedicated to Russian President Vladimir Putin: “My Funny Valentine.” Hitting home Trump’s close relationship with the controversial president, the strong cold open found a way to skewer the political moment without minimizing the pain and turmoil Ukrainians are facing.

It’s been a hectic political moment for SNL to meet, as the whole world watches a troubling situation unfold between Ukraine and Russia. At the orders of President Putin, Russian forces first began performing “special military operations” in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv on Feb. 24. Since then, Russia has begun a full-on invasion leading the United States to perform various sanctions on the nation, Ukrainian civilians to begin taking up arms, and stars across the entertainment world to speak out in support of Ukraine.

Last week, although SNL stayed away from any overt spoofs on the fresh and frightening situation, Colin Jost spoke out about Putin’s actions on Weekend Update, calling them a “colossal mistake.” He further got in shots against former president Donald Trump‘s support of Putin, joking: “Donald Trump praised Putin’s invasion of Ukraine saying, ‘this is genius’ — he also said ‘this is genius’ about his son Eric.”

In a moment of bipartisan unity, President Joe Biden called on Congress to further fund the police with necessary resources to fight crime.

President Joe Biden79, addressed the nation on the pressing issue of defunding the police during his State of the Union on Tuesday March 1. The president received a standing ovation from both Republicans and Democrats, as he called for providing police with further funding necessary to fight crime in their communities.

Police funding has been a hot button issue since Black Lives Matter protests throughout the summer of 2020. Biden highlighted police reforms that have been made, including banning chokeholds and requiring body cameras. “Let’s not abandon our streets or choose between safety and equal justice. Let’s come together and protect our communities, restore trust and hold law enforcement accountable,” he said. “We should all agree the answer is not to defund the police. It’s to fund the police. Fund them!”

As the applause settled down Biden continued, “Fund them with resources and training. Resources and training that they need to protect our communities.” He then moved on to more calls for stricter gun control laws, including stronger background checks.

The State of the Union came after a tumultuous week for the president. Biden imposed further sanctions on Russia in wake of President Vladimir Putin‘s attack on Ukraine on Thursday February 24. The president denounced the attack, and showed support for the Ukrainian people in an impassioned speech on Thursday. “Putin is the aggressor. Putin chose this war, and now he and his country will bare the consequences,” he said, as he laid out the plan for sanctions. “The entire world sees clearly what [Putin] and his Kremlin allies are really all about. This was never about a genuine security concern on their part. It was always about naked aggression, about Putin’s desire for empire by any means necessary.”

In the midst of the continued crisis in Ukraine, Biden also announced his nominee to fill Justice Stephen Breyer’s empty Supreme Court seat on Friday. The president named Ketanji Brown Jackson as his pick for the job, making her the first Black woman to be nominated for the nation’s highest court.

As Biden’s first State of the Union, he has much to reflect on from throughout his first year as president. After being inaugurated, one of the chief issues has been addressing the COVID-19 pandemic and getting a steady vaccine rollout. Biden’s speech came as many states loosened COVID restrictions. Prior to the speech, Biden spoke about loosening restrictions in a February 11 interview with NBC News. “There is a relationship between the number of cases you have in your community, and the need to wear masks,” he said. “I’ve tried to make sure we have all the vaccines needed, all the boosters needed, all the masks needed, all the protection that’s needed.”

Throughout his first year in office, Biden has also addressed other pressing issues in the nation, including calling on the Senate to end the filibuster and pass bills to protect voting rights. He’s also spoken out against former President Donald Trumpand his continued pushing of the Big Lie that the election was stolen. Biden called out his predecessor during a special speech given to commemorate the first anniversary of the January 6 insurrection.

Howard Stern spoke out against Donald Trump on the Monday episode of his SiriusXM show after the former president called Russian president Vladimir Putin’s moves in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine ‘genius.’

Howard Stern, 68, is letting the world know he doesn’t agree with Donald Trump or Vladimir Putin when it comes to Russia’s tragic invasion of Ukraine. The radio host revealed that he strongly disagrees with the former U.S. president after he publicly called Putin’s moves “genius” last week.

“The man [Putin] is a human stain. I don’t care how much power he has. Don’t praise him,” Howard said on Monday’s episode of his SiriusXM radio show when talking about Trump’s praise of Putin. “Don’t say what a genius he is. He’s not a genius. He’s a thug. He’s a bully.”

“I voted for many Republicans. I don’t see how I’ll ever get back to that,” Howard continued. “They’ve just totally disappointed me and their support of Vladimir Putin, the praise they heap on him. Trump’s praise of Vladimir Putin. This guy’s a f*cking animal. I wish he was dead like I wish Hitler was dead.”

Howard also expressed his concern for the Ukrainian people and what they’re going through since Russia’s invasion last week.

“I can’t imagine the horror of the life of the Ukrainian people. They’re living in a country – they decided to have free elections … and this scumbag who has more money than anybody, who has more power than anybody, who enslaves an entire country, who will kill you if you’re a journalist, will kill you if you speak out against him, who’s got everything a man could want if you’re truly a megalomaniac, and he didn’t have enough,” he said.

Howard went on to say he thinks Putin “is an enemy of humanity” and called him “a worthless human being” before adding that he wishes “Republicans and Democrats would get together with that message.”

“It’s time for this country to at least have a unified message about democracy and freedom,” he continued. “I’m sick and tired of the f*cking nightmare that’s going on with people defending Vladimir Putin. I never thought I’d live long enough to see it.”

Howard’s comments come after Trump spoke out about the Russia and Ukraine conflict in an interview with two conservative interviewers. He claimed President Joe Biden had no response to the invasion and went on to make his “genius” comment about Putin.

“I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius.’ Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine – of Ukraine. Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful,” Trump said on Feb. 2,  referring to Moscow’s recognition of two separatist nations in occupied Ukrainian Donbas.

With Saturday Night Live back for the first time in weeks, there’s a lot that’s been happening. Instead of choosing to skewer the current stressful world situation, Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong chose to lead the show with an emotional choral tribute to the people of Ukraine as they face invasion from Russia. In front of the group of 18 singers, there was a display of candles and flowers in a blazing yellow, the Ukrainian national color. The thoughtful and soulful tribute stood out among SNL’s usual silly, satirical cold opens.

Jen Psaki shared that she likes Peppermint Patty and didn’t find Ted Cruz’s comments comparing her to the ‘Charlie Brown’ character as an insult.

Jen Psaki proved she’s unphased by Ted Cruz’s attempt to rouse her as she clapped back at his “Peppermint Patty” diss. During a White House briefing, a reporter asked Joe Biden’s press secretary how she feels about referring to as the Charlie Brown character. “Don’t tell him I like Peppermint Patty. So I’m not gonna take it too offensively,” she said, then turned directly to the cameras. “Senator Cruz, I like Peppermint Patty. I’m a little tougher than that. But there you go.”

Ted Cruz took a moment to diss the press secretary during the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Florida. “You know Peppermint Patty deserves some love,” he prodded. However, he didn’t get the chuckles he expected as the jab was met with silence. It seems Ted will have to try better if he wants to get a rise out of her.

This isn’t the first time Psaki has been compared to a fictional character. Many Scandal fans have compared her to the character Abby Whelan, a White House press secretary who becomes chief of staff to the fictional President Fitzgerald Grant. It seems many think that Darby Stanchfield is her celebrity look-alike.

Jen also has been known to clap back when needed at a press conference. When asked if President Biden planned on keeping the Space Force instated by Donald Trumpshe had a quip lined up “Wow. I am happy to check with our Space Force point of contact. I’m not sure who that is. I will find out and see if we have any update on that.”

After receiving some negative feedback about her response to the Space Force question, she issued a statement that could also be interpreted as equally shady.  “We look forward to the continuing work of Space Force and invite the members of the team to come visit us in the briefing room anytime to share an update on their important work,” she wrote.

Foo Fights frontman Dave Grohl just admitted that he didn’t use protective ear monitors while performing because it ‘removed’ him from the ‘natural atmosphere.’

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, 53, has seemingly rocked too hard. He confessed that he’s basically “deaf” and has been for the past 20 years. “I haven’t had them tested in a long time — I mean, I know what they’re gonna say,” he said of his ears on The Howard Stern Show. “You have hearing damage tinnitus in your left ear, more so than your right ear.”

He then confessed that his hearing is so bad that he struggles to hear people who are sitting right by him. “If you were sitting next to me right here at dinner, I wouldn’t understand a f—ing word you were saying to me, the whole f—ing time. There’s no way,” he told Stern. He had been getting by with lip reading but the emergence of masks due to the coronavirus pandemic has definitely been an obstacle.

“In a crowded restaurant, that’s worse. That’s the worst thing about this pandemic s**t, it’s like, people wearing masks,” he continued. “I’ve been reading lips for like, 20 years… I’m a rock musician. I’m f***ing deaf, I can’t hear what you’re saying.” He admitted that ear monitors could have helped him protect his hearing, but he said he refuses to use them because takes him out of the moment and the “natural atmosphere.” He has certainly proved he’s willing to sacrifice for a good performance after he broke his leg on stage and continued performing.

Fortunately, that hasn’t stopped the rocker from performing. In fact, they recently took the stage for the inauguration of President Joe Biden. They gave a passionate rendition of “Times Like These.” Ahead of the song, he gave a speech about how he had written the song for his mom who was a teacher like Dr. Jill Biden.

He also took the stage when the Foo Fighters was honored as the U.S. recipient of the MTV Global Icon Award. He was joined by Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear, and Rami Jaffee to accept the award and rock out in true Foo Fighters fashion. When he’s not performing with the Foo Fighters, he’s being a doting father to his three daughters Violet, Harper, and Ophelia. Ranging from ages seven to 15, the father of three certainly must have his hands full!

The Bidens’ precious new feline, named Willow, is the first cat to reside at the White House since George W. Bush’s presidency over a decade ago.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden have expanded their family — their pet family, that is. The couple adopted an adorable cat named Willow, and Jill, 70, debuted the feline on her Instagram page on Friday, January 28. “Meet Willow!💕,” she wrote, alongside three different photos of Willow at the White House.

Michael LaRosa, who is the first lady’s press secretary, told CNN that Willow is a short-haired, two-year-old gray tabby. He also revealed that the pet cat is named after Jill’s hometown: Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.

The Bidens’ were first introduced to Willow while they were on the 2020 presidential election campaign trail. Willow jumped out during a speech that Joe, 79, was giving at a Pennsylvania farm, according to Michael, who said that Jill immediately fell in love with the cat. “Seeing their immediate bond, the owner of the farm knew that Willow belonged with Dr. Biden,” the spokesman said. As reports state, Willow is the first cat to live at the White House since George W. Bush and his wife Laura Bush‘s pet feline, India.

Willow isn’t the only new addition to the Bidens’ pet family. Just days before Christmas, they brought home a German Shepherd named Commander to the White House. The Bidens’ also currently own another German Shepherd, Major, 3, who was temporarily brought to Delaware in March 2021 for a few weeks after he’d bit a security guard and caused a minor injury on March 8. But after training, Major returned home to the White House by the end of the month.

Joe and Jill also had German Shepherd Champ, who they got back in 2008, after President Barack Obama‘s historic election, which Joe Biden was the vice president for. Champ sadly died on June 19 at age 13. “He was our constant, cherished companion during the last 13 years and was adored by the entire Biden family,” the first lady said in a statement announcing Champ’s passing.

Peter Doocy was called ‘a stupid son of a b*tch’ by President Joe Biden after he asked him a question about inflation. Find out more about the gutsy journalist here.

Peter Doocy, 34, unintentionally stepped into the spotlight on Jan. 24 when President Joe Biden, 79, shockingly responded to a question he asked him about inflation by calling him a “stupid son of a b*tch.” It’s unknown if Joe knew his mic was on at the time of his response, but it got the attention of many people shortly after. “Do you think inflation is a political liability in the midterms?” the Fox News reporter asked the politician at a White House event before he answered, “It’s a great asset—more inflation. What a stupid son of a b*tch.”

Find out more about Peter and his background in journalism below.

Peter didn’t hear Biden call him a ‘SOB’ at the time he said it.

He admitted that because of the loud volume in the White House at the time of the exchange, he didn’t hear Biden’s words at the time he said them. When someone eventually told him in the briefing room, he didn’t take it personally and even joked about it in the interview above shortly after.

When a fellow Fox News journalist cheekily suggested that maybe he is “a stupid SOB,” Peter responded with, “Nobody has fact checked him yet and said it’s not true.”

Biden reached out to him ‘within an hour’ of his comment.

“He said ‘It’s nothing personal, pal,’” Peter told Hannity. “And we went back and forth, and we were talking about just kind of moving forward, and I made sure to tell him that I’m always gonna try to ask something different than what everybody else is asking. And he said, ‘You got to.’ And that’s a quote from the president, so I’ll keep doing it.”

When asked if he apologized directly, Peter said he “cleared the air” and he “appreciated it.”

“I don’t need anybody to apologize to me. He can call me whatever he wants as long as it gets him talking!” he added. “I think that’s enough. That’s enough. So we can move on. We can now move forward. There will be years- three to seven years of opportunities to ask him about different stuff.”

Peter studied Political Science in college.

He attended Villanova University in 2009 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in the subject. While he was still attending the school, he started off his journalism career by contributing to Fox News as a Palestra.net reporter.

One of his biggest interviews was with the former Navy SEAL who claims he killed Osama bin Laden.

Robert O’Neill told Peter about the shot he fired that apparently took the life of the al-Qaeda founder in an exclusive TV interview on Fox News in 2014. It reportedly had the highest ratings of any documentary in Fox News history.

Biden isn’t the first politician to call him out.

Peter also had a shocking interaction with the late Senator John McCain in 2017, which can be seen above, and it led to a question he asked being labeled as “dumb.”

“Has your relationship with the president frayed to the point that you’re not going to support anything that he comes to you and asks for?” Peter asked before McCain responded with, “Why would you say something that stupid? Why would you ask something that dumb, heh? … That’s a dumb question.”

Betty White was ‘radiant,’ ‘beautiful’ and ‘as happy as ever’ in her last days as evidenced in a picture taken 11 days before her death.

Betty White’s assistant blessed the Internet with never-before-seen pictures of the actress that were taken just days before she passed away at 99 years old. The picture was uploaded on Monday, January 17, the day that would’ve been Betty’s 100th birthday. The assistant used the late Golden Girls actress’ Facebook account to share an adorable photo of her wearing a green patterned silk blouse and light green top with white pants. Betty wore her iconic red lipstick as she beamed at the camera.

The picture of Betty 11 days before she died comes with a sweet message from her assistant. “Hello Everyone! It’s Kiersten. Betty’s Assistant. On this special day, I wanted to share this photo of Betty. It was taken on 12/20/21,” she wrote. “I believe it’s one of the last photos of her. She was radiant and beautiful and as happy as ever. Thanks to all of you who are doing kind things today and every day to make the world a better place ❤️”

What’s even sweeter than one of the last pictures taken of Betty was her last word. Betty’s assistant was also by her side as she passed away and told Carol Burnett what the comedian uttered just before she died. Carol texted Vicki Lawrence who told Page Six what those last words were. “I texted Carol and said, ‘This just sucks. I hate this. It’s just horrible to see the people you love so much go away,’” she shared. “Carol wrote back and said, ‘I know, I know. I spoke to Betty’s assistant, who was with her when she passed, and she said the very last word out of her mouth was ‘Allen [Ludden].’” Allen was the name of her late husband.

Betty is continuing to make an impact on the world even in her death. The Hot in Cleveland actress was a passionate animal rights activist. So when she passed, her fans decided to honor her by donating at least $5 to local and national animal shelters for her birthday in what has been dubbed the #BettyWhiteChallenge. The challenge seems to be a hit as it’s trending on Twitter for her 100th birthday.

James Austin Johnson’s Joe Biden urged Americans to ‘stop seeing Spider-Man’ to prevent the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

James Austin Johnson’s Joe Biden had one goal during the cold open on Saturday Night Live: stop seeing Spider-Man: No Way Home to prevent the spread of Omicron. Johnson’s Biden was convinced that the hit film — which stars Tom Holland and Zendaya — was responsible for the massive spread of the virus. “Think about it,” he said on the January 15 episode. “When did Spider-Man come out? December 17th. When did every single person get Omicron? The week after December 17th. Stop seeing Spider-Man,” he urged.

And now, a message from President Joe Biden. pic.twitter.com/Q8TglFNBlF

— Saturday Night Live – SNL (@nbcsnl) January 16, 2022

The variant was spreading rapidly in mid-December, so perhaps Johnson’s Biden had a point. In fact, SNL was also majorly affected by COVID on the final episode of 2021, forcing the series to cancel its live sketches and audience (Tom Hanks was a last minute addition to the Paul Rudd hosted episode, alongside Tina Fey who filled in for Colin Jost). Johnson’s Biden went on to make some additional suggestions to reporters and Americans. “See anything else,” he added. “I saw the first half hour of House of Gucci. That’s more than enough movie for anyone,” referencing Lady Gaga and Adam Driver‘s film.

‼️‼️‼️ pic.twitter.com/czPQ796lsO

— Saturday Night Live – SNL (@nbcsnl) January 16, 2022

A reporter then suggested that perhaps there was another version of Biden in the “multi-verse” that “wants people” to see the movie. In the MCU, a multi-verse concept exists — which is how previous Spider-Man actors like Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were able to appear in the latest film with Tom Holland.

“Finally, a good question!” Johnson’s Joe explained. It turns out the concept had crossed his mind “I’ve actually thought about this a lot. I’ve consulted with Dr. Fauci and Dr. Strange [played by Benedict Cumberbatch in the films]. As far as I can tell there are at least three Joe Bidens. One of them is me,” he added.

“One of them is a Joe Biden that lost to [former president Donald] Trump. That Biden hosts a show on CNBC called ‘T-birds, Tacos and Trains.’ And then there’s a third Joe Biden that was the greatest president in history. My approval ratings are sky high, I’m actually supported by my own party, and I understand the show Euphoria,” he went on. Turns out one of the Joe’s was Pete Davidson from the “real universe” with a message for Johnson’s: that his universe was going to be destroyed!

“Everyone on Earth is better off in the real world except one man named Pete Davidson,” Pete’s Joe, rocking futuristic sunglasses and a blazer with nothing underneath, urged. “This world is maybe more fun for him,” Pete added.

Sen. Rand Paul came after Dr. Anthony Fauci during a hearing, but Dr. Fauci fired back by accusing the Republican of using the pandemic for ‘political gain’ while ‘lying about me’ and putting his family at risk.

Dr. Anthony Fauci seemingly had enough of Senator Rand Paul on Tuesday (Jan. 11). “What happens when he [Paul] gets out and accuses me of things that are completely untrue?” Dr. Fauci, 81, asked while testifying at a Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions hearing. Paul, 59, had accused the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of “destroy[ing] the reputations of other scientists who disagree with him,” referring to three conservative academics who opposed lockdown measures in 2020, per the Washington Post. The emails that the Kentucky senator used as proof showed Fauci sending colleagues a link to a Wired article debunking claims about “herd immunity,” and Fauci fired back at Paul. “That’s not what went on. There you go again. You do the same thing every hearing.”

"In usual fashion, senator, you are distorting everything about me." – Dr. Anthony Fauci after Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) asks him about one of his emails. pic.twitter.com/q7baLLw6Pv

— CBS News (@CBSNews) January 11, 2022

“So the last time we had a committee or the time before, he was accusing me of being responsible for the death of 4 to 5 million people, which is irresponsible,” Dr. Fauci said, per The Daily Beast. Why is he doing that? … The first is, it distracts from what we’re all trying to do here today, [which] is get our arms around the epidemic and pandemic we’re dealing with, not something imaginary. Number two, what happens when he gets out and accuses me of things that are completely untrue? [It]s that all of a sudden, that kindles the crazies out there and I have threats upon my life, harassment of my family, and my children, with obscene phone calls because people are lying about me.”

Fauci: Why would a Senator want to do this? Go to Rand Paul’s website and you see fire Dr. Fauci with a little box that says contribute here. So you are making catastrophic epidemic for your political gain pic.twitter.com/8dvxZ5ELxp

— Acyn (@Acyn) January 11, 2022

Dr. Fauci hinted at Kuachua Brillion Xiong, 25, a California man arrested during a traffic stop in Iowa in December. Xiong had an AR-15 and multiple magazines of ammunition in his car. He had a “hit list” that included former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, and potentially President Joe Biden. Dr. Fauci’s name wasn’t included in the federal complaint against Xiong, and his attorney indicated in court that the man intends to plead insanity.

That wasn’t the only accusation Dr. Fauci lobbed at his rival. He brought up how Sen. Paul’s reelection website has a “Fire Dr. Fauci” section and includes “a little box that says contribute here. You can do five dollars. Ten dollars. Twenty dollars, a hundred dollars,” Fauci said. “So you are making a catastrophic epidemic for your political gain.” Rand Paul dismissed the criticism by saying it was “disappointing” for Dr. Fauci to “suggest that people who dare to question you are responsible somehow for violent threats.”

President Joe Biden and his wife took a stroll with their adorable new puppy, Commander, on the beach in his home state of Delaware.

President Joe Biden, 79, and First Lady Jill Biden, 70, were accompanied by their furry new friend while on a walk during their holiday vacation to Delaware. The couple and Commander, the adorable new puppy they adopted just days before Christmas, were pictured taking a stroll on December 28 on the Rehoboth Beach. The little German Shepherd appeared to be enjoying the open area of the president’s home state to walk and run around.

The Bidens dressed casually to take Commander out for a walk. Joe wore a black jacket, denim jeans, and black sneakers. He also had on a black hat and a protective face mask, amidst a surge of COVID-19 cases due to the Omicron variant. The 46th president walked Commander on a leash, though at one point he let the dog go free to roam around the beach and play fetch with a tennis ball.

As for Jill, she wore a black jacket, blue jeans, gray Nike sneakers, and a protective face mask for the outing. She walked at a distance from her husband, and held onto the tennis ball until it was time to play fetch with Commander. The couple were reportedly joined by the Secret Service, though they didn’t come close to Joe and Jill. No other people were on the beach, aside from the paparazzi who snapped the photos of the Bidens and Commander.

The Bidens officially welcomed Commander into their family on December 20. Commander was a gift from the president’s family, according to CNN, and the canine is the first new puppy to join the Bidens in the White House. His arrival came six months after the Bidens’ German Shepherd Champ died on June 19 at age 13. The president and first lady got Champ back in 2008, after President Barack Obama‘s historic election, which Joe Biden was the vice president for.

Aside from Commander, the Bidens are also proud dog owners of another German Shepherd, Major, 3. They had Major since 2018, though he was temporarily brought to Delaware in March 2021 for a few weeks after he’d bit a security guard and caused a minor injury on March 8. After the training, Major returned to the White House later that month.

Vice President Kamala Harris defended President Joe Biden after Charlamagne tha God questioned if Biden or Democratic Senator Joe Manchin was running the country. During a heated exchange on Charlamagne’s Comedy Central show Tha God’s Honest Truth on December 17, the host pressed Harris about calling Manchin out for his continued opposition to Democratic legislation. After questioning if Manchin was a “problem” for their administration, Charlamagne went so far as to ask, “I want to know who the real president of this country is — is it Joe Biden, or Joe Manchin?”

Harris quickly shot back, definitively answering that Biden was in charge and that she found Charlamagne’s line of questioning out of hand. “C’mon, Charlamagne,” she said with a disappointed tone. “No, no, no, no, it’s Joe Biden. And don’t start talking like a Republican, about asking whether or not he’s president. It’s Joe Biden, it’s Joe Biden and I’m vice president and my name is Kamala Harris.”

Charlamagne argued that Manchin, whose vote is essential in passing the $1.75 trillion Build Back Better Act, is “stopping progress”. “He’s ruining democracy,” he added. “‘Cause what scares me is if the voting rights don’t pass, the Build Back Better doesn’t pass, or police reform doesn’t pass, I doubt you’re gonna get Black people to go out there and vote in 2022 and 2024.”

“I hear the frustration,” Harris replied. “But let’s not deny the impact that we’ve had, and agree also that there is a whole lot more work to be done. And it is not easy to do, but we will not give up. And I will not give up.”

With the tension between the pair dying down, Charlamagne interjected how he was impressed with Harris’ passion and push back. “I just want you to know, that Madame Vice President, that Kamala Harris, that’s the one I like,” Charlamagne explained.. “That’s the one that was putting the pressure on people in Senate hearings. That’s the one I’d like to see more often out here in these streets.”

The Jonas Brothers stopped by the White House for a special TikTok-esque team-up with President Joe Biden to encourage citizens to get vaccinated.

The Jonas Brothers came to the White House on Friday for a special visit as they teamed up with President Joe Biden for their hilarious take on a recent viral TikTok video where people are discussing president “Byron” and getting vaccinated. The funny video starts with Joe Jonas going “bing bong!” before Nick mouths, “Are you vaccinated?” Then, Kevin pops out of a box and says, “Yes sir!”

The clip then returns to Nick who asks, “Who’s the president, man? Who’s the president?” to which Joe replies, “Byron!” before Kevin, repeats, “Byron!”

The brothers then end the video with Joe asking, “What do you want to tell Joe Biden right now?” Kevin and Nick then do their take on the viral reply: “What’s up baby! Take me out to dinner.” After they finish imitating the original video, Kevin breaks character and asks, “Did we get it?” and the camera then pans to the president, who was “taping” the video, as he says, “We got it!”
What’s more, POTUS himself commented on Nick’s Instagram share of the video, writing, “It’s pronounced Biden guys — thanks for stopping by!”

The move is part of a concerted effort on behalf of the White House to get more people vaccinated as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage on — perhaps now more intensely due to the Omicron variant. Over the summer, the White House brought teen superstar Olivia Rodrigo to help encourage young people to get vaccinated. The “Drivers License” singer looked stunning in a pink-and-black-patterned tweed skirt and jacket and helped spread a very important message in the prevention of the coronavirus.

During her visit, Olivia spoke at a press conference about the importance of vaccines, also thanking the White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki and reporters for helping her get the word out. “I’m beyond honored and humbled to be here today to help spread the message about the importance of youth vaccination. I’m in awe of the work President Biden and Dr. Fauci have done, and was happy to help lend my support to this important initiative,” she said. “It’s important to have conversations with friends and family members, encouraging all communities to get vaccinated and actually get to a vaccination site, which you can do more easily than ever before, given how many sites we have and how easy it is to find them at vaccines.gov.”

President Joe Biden revealed he and his wife Jill Biden make their own ‘eggs’ and ‘pour’ their ‘own cereal’ after waking up in the mornings, during his first appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.’

President Joe Biden, 79, wants the world to know he and First Lady Jill Biden, 70, are still humble beings despite living in the most famous house in America. The leader of the free world appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Dec. 10  and revealed that they asked the White House kitchen staff to let them cook their own breakfasts despite the fact that everything could be made for them.

Jill and I, we come from middle class backgrounds. We both are college graduates who worked like hell … anyway, the end result was that we’re not used to people waiting on us,” Joe explained to Jimmy in his first appearance on the show. “And so in the White House, there’s somebody to make your breakfast or someone to pack your clothes or someone to carry your bag.”

“We now have a deal. And they’re great,” he continued. “The guys who run the kitchen on the second floor, we don’t have them come in to do breakfast works, because there’s no need for them to have to do breakfast, whereas we can make our own eggs or pour a bowl of cereal.”

After Jimmy responded and asked if Joe makes his own eggs, he hilariously admitted Jill is the one who does it since his culinary skills are limited. “My daughter was being interviewed when she was about, I don’t know, 9, 10 years old. And [they] said, ‘Can your daddy cook for you?’ She said, ‘My daddy can’t do much, he can boil water and make “sketti.” But he can’t do much else,’” Joe lightheartedly recalled when further elaborating on his lack of cooking habits. “And guess what, she’s right.”

In addition to Joe talking about breakfast and cooking on the Tonight Show, Jill previously told PEOPLE how she and Joe had been settling into their new home, which they moved into after the inauguration in Jan. “The residence staff has been so great, trying to make it feel like home for us,” she shared with the outlet back in Feb. “We have family pictures all around, our books, some furniture we brought from home.”

Kristin completed the look with furry white cuffs around her neck and wrists to help keep warm.

Aside from Kristin, this star-studded event also featured performances from H.E.R, Chris Stapleton, Maren Morris, Juanes, Patti LaBelle and more. In late October, she got engaged to her boyfriend, Josh Bryant, and was happily showing off her engagement ring during the National Christmas Tree Lighting performance. The Broadway vet announced her exciting personal news on social media, gushing over her man in the post. “Guess you’re stuck with me now,” she wrote. “I love you and I’m never letting you go. A million times yes!!!!”

This is Kristin’s second engagement, although she never tied the knot with her ex, Marc Kudish. The actress has been linked to various men over the years, but it looks like she’s ready to settle down with Josh now. 2022 is looking pretty good, too!

While performing outside at the National Christmas Tree Lighting in Washington D.C., Maren Morris kept warm with her leather jacket that had fur trim.

Maren Morris was one of many stars to take the stage at Washington D.C.’s National Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 2. The holiday special aired on CBS on Dec. 5, and Maren absolutely crushed her performance. The country singer performed  “Rocking Around The Christmas Tree,” and looked ready for winter in her outdoor ensemble.

For the performance, Maren wore a navy blue, long leather jacket, which had black fur trip around the neckline and sleeves. She paired the look with black leather boots, and was appropriately dressed to sing outside for the holiday affair. Maren danced around the stage as she belted out the Christmas classic tune, getting attendees and viewers into the holiday spirit.

LL Cool J hosted the National Christmas Tree Lighting, which was attended by president Joe Biden and his wife, first lady Jill Biden. 2021 was the first time that the event was broadcasted on television. Other performers included Chris Stapleton, Patti LaBelle, Kristin Chenoweth, H.E.R, and more.
